In the final, the Sussex Sonics defeated the Bristol Carleton North Stars 75-61. The Sonics said they were motivated by a narrow loss in the 2000 final. “That loss was very big,” said Sonics’ senior Jeremy McLean, who scored 23 and nabbed 10 boards, told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “We wanted to back here so bad after last year.” The Sonics played even up with Carleton North most of the first half before using an 11-2 run to lead 44-33 at the break. Jeremy Maxwell connected on the first bucket of the second half, upping the lead to 13 points and the Sonics never looked back. “We try to attack teams when they are down,” said McLean. “As soon as we get a hole, we try to bust it wide open. That’s what good teams do. They see an opening and they capitalize.” Carleton North outscored the Sonics 22-8 from the line. Maxwell scored 13 to lead the Sonics. Paul Lammens added 11, along with 8 boards. Dustin Peterson led Carleton North with 17. Andrew Blackie added 12 and Tyler O’Neill 10. Lammens told the Moncton Times & Transcript that “this game meant everything to the seniors. There are some players on the team have been together since Grade 9 and others have been here since Grade 10. They wanted to win it all in their final year. They’ve come close before, but they felt like it was now or never. With so many Grade 12s, we knew the timing was right. … That was our kind of game. We played with a lot of speed and a lot of intensity. We also boxed out and controlled the rebounds, too. We did everything fairly well, but we probably won it because of our desire. We really wanted to win this one.”
