In the final, the St. Stephen Spartans defeated the Woodstock Warriors 67-59 to repeat as provincial champs and end coach Don Walker’s coaching tenure on a winning note. “We wanted to win this for Mr. Walker,” said game co-MVP Kirk Parker told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. Teammate Jeff Walker, the coach’s son, was selected the co-MVP. “We wanted this to be a great ending for him,” he told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. The Spartans simply outworked the Warriors, diving for loose balls and scrapping for offensive boards. Parker, who scored 23, added that “we live for this kind of game. We knew they were good inside and we tried to take that away from them. Once they got down by 10 or 11 points, they seemed to lose their composure.” Parker ignited the Spartans offence with 14 of his points in the opening nine minutes, surging St. Stephen to an 11-point lead. Woodstock cut it to one point with 3:07 left in the first half but never got any closer. Walker, who added 20, said Parker’s jump start was critical. “He got all hot in the first half and that was the key. We got some confidence and said we can do this.” Ryan Harris led Woodstock with 14. Brennan Caverhill added 11. St. Stephen finished (27-10) on the season, while Woodstock was (27-12).
