The NBIAA conducts a reclassification: AAA schools are those with an enrolment over 1000. AA schools with an enrolment between 400-999. ‘A’ schools have an enrolment below 400. The former M division becomes the AA division.
In the quarterfinals, the 4th-seeded Rothesay Regional Red Hawks (then the Sabres?) clipped the 5th-seeded Riverview Royals 42-29 as Robinson scored 14, Buckley 10, Lutes 6, Doull 5, Chapman 4, Hughes 2 and Brisbois 2. Dave Clark led the Royals with 8. Kevin Downey added 4, Wayne Suinnard 7, Brian McSheen 4, T Layne Stokes 3, Tim Graham 2 and Curtis Spierean 2.
In the other quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Saint John Greyhounds clipped the 6th-seeded Bathurst Phantoms 49-36 as Sullivan scored 27, Fleming 12, Raynes 6, Logan 2, Dykeman 1 and Donner 1. Mike Calnan led the Phantoms with 14. Richard Dobson added 7, Kevin Doucet 6, Randy Daley 4, John Freen 3 and Craig Whaller 2.
In the semis, the 4th-seeded Rothesay Regional Red Hawks upset top-seeded the Woodstock Thunder 50-48 as Robinson scored 18, Doull 10, Lutes 20, Chapman 6, Buckley 2, Hines 2 and Soper 2. Flewelling led the Thunder with 17. Gray added 15, Graham 11, Young 4 and Briggs 1.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded St. Stephen Spartans spanked the 3rd-seeded Saint John Greyhounds 60-45 as Imgram acored 16, Hanson 13, Walker 13, Watkins 8, McCaffery 4 and Madsen 2. Flemming the Greyhounds with 12. Sullivan added 12, Raynes 9, Hason 6, Dykeman 3, McKnight 2 and Morrison 1.
In the final, the 2nd-seeded St. Stephen Spartans nipped the 4th-seeded Rothesay Regional Red Hawks 58-56 as Ingram scored 22, Walker 16, Hanson 9, McGeachy 6, Greenlaw 2 and Watkins 2. Hanson knotted the score at 56 but Ingram hit a pair from the line to win it for the Spartans. The Spartans hit 10-17 from the line and finished the season (23=10). Spartans coach Peter Corby told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “it was a good game. But then, that’s nothing new. It was the fourth time we met Rothesay this year and every game was close. … The most satisfying thing to me was that I started coaching these boys in junior varsity four years ago and then moved up as varsity coach for the school last year. This is really my team.” St. Stephen also captured the girls AAA title.
