In the interzone playoffs, the Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans clipped the Swan River Swan Valley Tigers 60-51 as Corrie McCannell scored 33 and Khanh Nguyen 8. Kim Yaschyshyn led the Tigers with 17. The tigers led 26-19 at the half.
In the quarterfinals, held in Swan River, the top-seeded Winnipeg Jeanne Sauve Olympiens thrashed the 8th-seeded Thompson R.D. Parker Trojans x-x.
The 4th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans edged the 5th-seeded Winnipeg St. Johns Ravenscourt Eagles 75-67 as Corrie McCannell scored 33. Jamie Kachan added 18. Jennifer Botterill led the Eagles with 21. The score was knotted at 33 at the half. “We started slow,” Spartans coach Dave Malowski told the Brandon Sun. “I think it was just nervousness about being in the provincials, though. We went to a zone in the second half and they didn’t have the outside shooters to beat it. We had nine girls score points for us, so everyone got a little experience.”
The 6th-seeded Swan River Swan Valley Tigers defeated the 3rd-seeded Winkler Garden Valley Zodiacs 65-52. The Zodiacs included Michelle Dyck.
In the last quarterfinal, the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg St. Mary’s Academy Flames dispatched the 7th-seeded Portage la Prairie Arthur Meighen Saints x-x.
In the semis, the top-seeded Winnipeg Jeanne Sauve Olympiens whipped the 4th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans 77-40 as Stacey Ross scored 23 and Allison Lang 18. Corrie McCannell paced the Spartans with 23. Khanh Nguyen added 8. “It was brutal, to put it politely,” Neelin coach Dave Malowski told the Brandon Sun. “We just didn’t have it at all and they came out and played very well. They’re disappointed, for sure, but these kids have come a long way this season. We made it to the city finals and to the provincials, which were two of our goals.
In the other semi, the 6th-seeded Swan River Swan Valley Tigers edged the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg St. Mary’s Academy Flames 41-37 on a critical bucket by Pam Barkowski in the final minute.
In the bronze medal match, the 4th-seeded Brandon T.A. Neelin Spartans whipped the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg St. Mary’s Academy Flames 69-43 as Corrie McCannell scored 34, Jamie Kachan 14 and Khanh Nguyen 11. Gabri Macra paced the Flames with 10. The Flames also included Christine Blouw, Danielle Riese.
In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Jeanne Sauve Olympians defeated the 6th-seeded Swan River Swan Valley Tigers 65-35. Janelle Taylor was chosen player of the game for Tigers.
