In the semis, the Hamiota Huskies dispatched the Russell Major Pratt Trojans 59-40 as Alana Mathison scored 16, player of the game Charla Mathison 12 and Kristi Prawdzik 11.
In the other semi, the Treherne Tigers whipped the 2nd-seeded St. Laurent Hawks 56-39.
In the bronze medal match, the Russell Major Pratt Trojans edged the 2nd-seeded St. Laurent Hawks 62-59. The Trojans finished (24-6) on the season. The Hawks included Odette Lambert, Julie Byron.
In the final, the top-seeded Hamiota Huskies defeated the Treherne Tigers 59-53 as Denise Murray scored 18, Charlene Desrochers 16 and Kristi Prawdzik 11. The Huskies led 34-23 at the half. “We do work on defence in practice a certain amount, but it is just that some of the girls have come out and played it better than in previous years,” Huskies coach Bruce Holden told the Winnipeg Free Pres. The Huskies finished (29-5) on the season. “We have a good program at the school that starts at the junior high level,” added Holden. “I felt confident the team could win and tried to get that across to the girls. If you look at our team, we have five very good starters.” Leanne Gates led the Tigers with 14. Kari Vigar added 15.
