In the interzone playoffs, the Pinawa Panthers clubbed the St. Laurent Hawks 47-33.
In the quarterfinals, held in Glenboro, the 3rd-seed Pinawa Panthers defeated the 6th-seeded Gilbert Plains Trojans 73-51 as player of the game Tavis Donnelly scored 34, Roland VanGend 22, Ken Beuckert 8, Ruan VanGend 4, Adam Kettles 2 and Troy Miller 2. Garret Dykun paced the Trojans with 24. Ryan Zadorozny added 14, Jason Robiak 6, Keith Genik 4, Jordan Dykun 3. The Trojans (coached by Trevor Beals) also included Jaret Priest, Phillip Nault, Greg Wiebe, Brad Puchailo, Chris Dykun, Jonah Genik, Tim Senko, Jaret Priest and Robbie Hrychuk.
The 2nd-seeded Glenboro Panthers defeated the 7th-seeded Koostatak Charles Sinclair Hawks 82-67 as Derek Alcock scored 29, Shaun Dowd 19, Cam Richmond 14, Gary Sewell 10 and Dustin Hill 4. Tobin McKay and Adam Murdock each scored 19 to pace the Hawks. Derek Hall added 14, Justin Sinclair 7, William Whiteway 5 and Keith Mason 3.
The 5th-seeded Ste. Anne/Pointe des Chenes Cavaliers dumped the 4th-seeded Rosenort Red Hawks 53-44 as Jim Mourant scored 18, Leon Verrier 8, Pat Lanouette 7, David Hudon 6, Martin St. Hilaire 5, Ashton Beaupre 4, Andre Loiselle 2 and Mario Chanpang 2. Darcy Friesen led the Red Hawks with 15. Chris Check added 12, Paul Gregorie 8, Jared Dueck 6, Brent Parker 2 and Michael Thiesen 1.
The top-seeded St. Laurent Hawks whipped the 8th-seeded Lynn Lake West Lynn Heights North Stars 80-31 as Scott McKay scored 22, Trevor Chartrand 18, Aaron Bruce 13, T.J. Appleyard 12, Ben Allard 7, Ryan Bruce 6, Bobby Coutu 2 and Jason Appleyard 2. Christopher Potts paced the North Stars with 14. Steve Lysohirka added 6, Tyler Hunt 5, Chance Skomorowski 4 and Ryan Hyslop 2.
In the semis, the 3rd-seeded Pinawa Panthers stunned the 2nd-seeded Glenboro Panthers 62-50 as player of the game Roland VanGend scored 29, Tavis Donnelly 21, Geoff Chen 5, Trevor Gascoyne 2, Adam Kettles 2, Troy Miller 2 and Ken Beuckert 2. Shaun Dowd paced Glenboro with 16. Gary Sewell added 14, Derek Alcock 12, Cam Richmond 7 and Dustin Hill 2.
In the other semi, the top-seeded St. Laurent Hawks defeated the 5th-seeded Ste. Anne Pointe des Chenes Cavaliers 73-62 as Scott McKay scored 28, Ryan Bruce 15, Aaron Bruce 13, Trevor Chartrand 6, Ben Allard 6, T.J. Appleyard 2 and Bobby Coutu 2. Pat Lanouette paced Point des Chenes with 16. Jim Mourant added 13, Ashton Beaupre 10, David Hudon 8, Leon Verrier 6, Andre Loiselle 4 and Martin St. Hilaire 2.
In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Glenboro Panthers edged the 5th-seeded Ste. Anne Pointe des Chenes Cavaliers 60-52 as Derek Alcock scored 25, Shaun Dowd 17, Cam Richmond 12, Gary Sewell 2, Dusty Hill 2 and Cody Jonsson 1. Jim Mourant paced the Cavaliers with 18. Ashton Beaupre added 10, Pat Lanouette 7, Mario Champang 5, Leon Verrier 5, David Colburn 2, David Hudon 2 and Andre Dubois 2.
In the final, the 3rd-seeded Pinawa Panthers whacked the top-seeded St. Laurent Hawks 65-42 as Tavis Donnelly scored 28, Roland VanGend 21, Ken Bueckert 9, Ruan VanGend 4 and Trot Miller 2. Trevor Chartrand paced the Hawks with 13. T.J. Appleyard added 7, Aaron Bruce 7, Ryan Bruce 6, Jason Appleyard 5 and Scott McKay 4. Panthers coach Ann Sisler, a 30-year-vet, told the Pinawa News that “you assume that at some point you will win (a provincial championship), you hope you will win one, but when you get into coaching you realize how few people actually do succeed. I was more happy for the boys than anything, we really came together as a team and everyone supported each other.” Tournament MVP Tavis Donnelly said “it was a total team effort, everyone stepped up when they had to. I’ve never seen us play that well all year.”
