In the quarterfinals, the 6th-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders dumped the 3rd-seeded Peguis Wolverines 57-50. Bryan Hulst was chosen player of the game for the Raiders. The Wolverines included Clay Bird, Cliff Kirkness.
The top-seeded Glenboro Panthers defeated the 12th-seed Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs 92-38 as 6-9 centre Marcel Vallotton scored 33, including 15 in the first quarter. Trent Hamilton added 22. Eric Deal led Western Christian with 17. Jeff Roberts added 6. The loss ended the Mustangs rather unusual streak of having won six consecutive provincial bronze medals. Mustangs coach Scott Roberts told the Dauphin Herald that “we really played a good game but we were severely undersized and had a short bench. We just came up against a highly skilled one-A team.” The Mustangs also included Ken Sung, Blair Roberts.
The 2nd-seeded Boissevain Broncos defeated the 11th-seeded Leaf Rapids Sagkeeng Wolves 97-47.
In the last quarterfinal, the 4th-seeded Carberry Cougars dusted the 5th-seeded Steinbach Christian Flames 83-66. The Flames included Dan Frechette, Shawn Funk.
In the semis, the Glenboro Panthers defeated the 4th-seeded Carberry Cougars 72-62. Panthers coach Rick Scott told the Glenboro Gazette that his troops displayed “great discipline” which Allowed them to remain focused. I feel that was a big factor in their win.”
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Boissevain Broncos defeated 6th-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders 60-30. Keith Olsen was chosen player of the game for the Raiders.
In the bronze medal match, the 4th-seeded Carberry Cougars dumped the 6th-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders 62-47. Bryan Hulst was chosen player of the game for the Raiders. The Raiders also included Sheldon Kakaygeesick, Keith Olsen.
In the final, the top-seeded Glenboro Panthers defeated the 2nd-seeded Boissevain Broncos 77-70. “It’s tough to win the provincial championship once, but to win it back to back, two consecutive years, is even harder,” Panthers coach Rick Scott told the Glenboro Gazette. Trent Hamilton nailed a trey at the buzzer to give the Panthers a 12-10 lead after one quarter. The Panthers drained another trey at the buzzer to take a 32-29 at the half and opened the second half with a 1-2-2 press to quickly expand their lead to 8. “That definitely was a turning point in the game. It was a new play that we had practiced, and it worked out pretty good,” Scott said. The Panthers never again trailed. “I was confident, but I must admit, I was nervous too, you have to be when the score is so close, it really was anybody’s game,” Scott added. “Our team has a lot of respect for the Broncos. There is a healthy rivalry between the two teams. It’s nice to face a team like them on the court, but it’s even nicer to come out on top at the end. … It is still really exciting. I’m really happy for the team; the boys have been dedicated and committed all season. I’m very proud of them.
