In the interzone playoffs, the Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs clubbed the Hamiota Huskies 52-36 as Peter Roberts scored 27 and Tori Krogsgaard 7. Daniel Mayres led the Huskies with 12. Adam Duncan added 9.
In the quarterfinals, held in Glenboro, the top-seeded Boissevain Broncos clocked the 8th-seeded Wabowden Mel Johnson Eagles 86-59.
The 5th-seeded Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs nipped the 4th-seeded host Glenboro Panthers 37-36. The Mustangs led 23-10 at the half but needed four points from Karl Roberts in the final minute to pull out the win. Roberts led the Mustangs with 10. Tori Krogsgaard added 8. The Panthers (coached by Dave Prost, assisted by Rick Scott) included Devin McLean, Travis Lodge, Curt Anderson, Nathan Ham, James Young, Trent Hamilton, Travis Hamilton, Devin Lussier, Chris Ford, Colin Anderson, Mike Elliott and Marcel Vallotton.
The 3rd-seeded Rosenort Redhawks clipped the 6th-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders 68-57.
In the last quarterfinal, the 2nd-seeded Lac du Bonnet Chargers dumped the 7th-seeded Peguis Wolverines 66-54. The Wolverines led 29-23 at the half. The Wolverines included Clay Bird, Redsky Bird.
In the semis, the top-seeded Boissevain Broncos dumped the 5th-seeded Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs 64-48. Kelly Foss paced the Mustangs with 17. “We were quite happy with that game,” said Mustangs coach Scott Roberts. “They are a tough team. But we couldn’t get our shots to drop. We were down by 13 at the end of the first quarter. It was a three-point game for the other three quarters.” The Mustangs (coached by Scott Roberts) also included Kori Jones, Peter Roberts, Tori Krogsgaard, Randy Foss, Clayton Muller, Kent Wieb, John Close, Mark Roberts, Kris Roberts.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Lac du Bonnet Chargers stomped the 3rd-seeded Rosenort Redhawks 83-50. The Chargers led 25-4 after one quarter and romped.
In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs whipped the 3rd-seeded Rosenort Redhawks 90-55 to capture their fifth consecutive provincial bronze medal. Tori Krogsgaard paced the Mustangs with 20. Peter Roberts added 11. “The boys played a great third-place game,” said Mustangs coach Scott Roberts told the Dauphin Herald. “But this is the fifth year in a row we have won the third-place game. We can’t seem to get past the semifinals. We came into the year expecting to rebuild. We had one of the youngest teams at the provincial tournament. It was a great learning experience for us. And we expect to be near the next year.” The Redhawks included Mark Friesen.
In the final, the 2nd-seeded Lac du Bonnet Chargers crushed the top-seeded Boissevain Broncos 76-58 as Jon Arseniuk scored 31, Scott Macfarlane 15 and Kieran David 15, while Terry Asselstine dominated the boards. It was the Chargers third consecutive provincial crown. They finished (22-3) on the campaign.
