In the quarterfinals, held in Roblin, the top-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders smacked the 8th-seeded Churchill Duke of Marlborough 110-52 as Travis Pederson scored 30 and Darryl Pederson 28.
The 6th-seeded Boissevain Broncos stunned the 3rd-seeded host Roblin St. Vladimir’s Knights 69-62. The Knights included David Holowka, Nick Sirdar, Vince Lozinski, Greg Solomon, Chris Hyshka, Lawrence Grzenda, Jon Kozak, James Powrie, Rob Maksymetz.
The 2nd-seeded Lac Du Bonnet Chargers whipped the 7th-seeded Peguis Wolverines 73-35. The Wolverines (coached by Archie Bird) included Ernie Flett, Cory Wilson, Redsky Bird, Ryan Bird, Steve Webb, Tommy Bird, Cory Bird, Clayton Bird, Arthur Cook and Vernon Cook.
In the last quarterfinal, the 5th-seeded Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs toppled the 4th-seeded Rosenort Red Hawks 74-63 as Kris Roberts scored 22 and Mark Roberts 21. The Redhawks included Kevin Friesen, Derek Elder.
In the semi, the 2nd-seeded Lac du Bonnet Chargers defeated the 6th-seeded Boissevain Broncos 88-51. Shawn Wassing was selected player of the game for the Chargers after scoring 32 and nabbing 15 boards. John Dancyt added 23 and Jon Arseniuk 8, along with 14 boards.
In the other semi, the top-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders defeated the 5th-seeded Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs 57-54 as Justin Boileau scored 20 and Andre Ducharme 18. Mark Roberts led the Mustangs with 16. “I really felt like we played well enough to win,” Mustangs coach Scott Roberts told the Dauphin Herald. “Basically, we went out to shut down two of their players who were their high scorers. But like all good teams, they had someone else who stepped up and scored 16.”
In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Dauphin Western Christian Mustangs defeated the 6th-seeded Boissevain Broncos 65-51 as Mark Roberts scored 17, Clayton Muller 12 and Chris Reddekopp 10. The Broncos included Sheldon Dyck, Jamie Smith, Neil Ransom, Todd Clark, Rob Maxwell.
In the final, the 2nd-seeded wildcard Lac du Bonnet Chargers defeated the top-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders 55-53 to defend their provincial crown and avenge a loss in the zone 13 finals, as well as a loss in a preseason tournament. The Chargers led 36-20 at the half but the Raiders, with just 23 boys enrolled in grades 9-12, ripped off an 18-3 run to start the second half, while capitalizing on Charger foul trouble. Point guard John Dancyt was chosen player of the game for the Chargers, while scoring 14 and dishing a raft of assists. Jon Arseniuk paced the Chargers with 16 point, 15 boards and 3 blocks. Shawn Wassing added 12, along with 8 boards. Raiders coach John Bukich told the Dauphin Herald that “seven or eight of these players, who will graduate next year, have played since grade nine, were heartbroken at losing the provincial final, but they took it in stride.”
