In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Oak Park Raiders captured their third consecutive title by dusting the Winnipeg Sturgeon Heights Huskies 83-52 after leading 14-11, 36-24 and 55-45 at the quarters. Tournament MVP Lauren Bartlett told the Winnipeg Free Press that “it feels pretty good. It makes all the practices and all the time we put in worth it. … Not only did we have great skilled players on our team, but the fact that we were able to work so well together, that made us excel. You start to just know where everyone’s going to go and you be able to read people pretty well offensively and defensively. You work as a unit and it just feels natural.” Raiders coach Murray Brown said the pressure to three-peat was a motivating force all season. “We didn’t talk about it a lot as a group but at the same time we knew it was there. They wanted to play in that last game of the season. At no time did they ever stop working, every day they came in and did they mundane things that every team has to do without complaint.” Brown added that he was “worried” about the final. “I thought we had the advantage going in but (Huskies star) Anna Kernaghan is a spectacular player and she causes everybody all kinds of problems.” Brown added that his troops played poorly in the first half. “We were forcing shots, we weren’t boxing out properly on defence, we turned the ball over too often. But I just couldn’t find it, as their coach and having so much trust in them, to take them off, so you just let them work though the problems and eventually they got it going.” Brown quipped the Raiders success was a function of “coaching. No, we’re just fortunate to have success over the years and success really breeds success so kids want to come play here.” Claire Signatovich paced the Raiders with 20 on 9-22 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc, 2-2 from the line, 16 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Lauren Bartlett added 17 on 7-18 from the floor, 3-7 from the arc, 4 boards and 2 assists. Emily Johnson added 17 on 8-12 from the floor, 1-4 from the line, 15 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals.
