In the final, the top-seeded Oak Park Raiders edged the 2nd-seeded Glenlawn Lions 71-65. Tournament MVP Kerilynn MacLennan suffered a leg cramp in the fourth quarter but returned to the floor to hit the winning bucket with a minute to play. The Lions had rallied from a double-digit deficit to knot the score at 63 on a Jasmine Ibrabim trey. With the score tied at 65, MacLenann broke the deadlock with a 15-foot baseline jumper to ignite a late 6-0 Raiders run. “I knew our team was going to pull it out in the end, but … I knew it was going to come down to (a few) points,” MacLennan said. “When I was sitting down at the edge and I saw the game was getting closer the therapist just told me to relax, I could not relax when my team is out there.” Raiders coach Murray Brown said “when you play Glenlawn you know you’re never comfortable. It doesn’t matter what the score is, they’re gonna take a shot at us and they sure did. Our kids had to dig down. They tied the score, but we got back to what we want to do all the time and that’s push after a score. They hit that three to tie the game and then four seconds later we’re back in the lead. So we tried to stay true to our philosophy.” The Raiders used a 16-4 run midway through the second quarter to take a 36-26 lead at the half. They stretched their margin to 14 before Glenlawn responded with a 12-4 run to reduce the lead to 46-44. The Raiders responded by rebuilding their lead to 58-47 before the Lions responded with a 16-5 run. Then MacLennan hit the jumper and stole the ball with 24 seconds to play leading to free throws by Colleen Moyer and Jerilyn Morton that iced the win. “I knew from the beginning, when I get on my court, I make sure that every shot counts,” she said. “I had it open, I had time to think about it, I knew it was time to release and it was now or never. I took the chance and I’m glad I did. It’s indescribable” MacLennan scored 28 and nabbed 15 boards. Utah-bound post Emily Potter led the Lions with 30. Ibrahim added 15. The Raiders finished 33-0 on the season. “Undefeated? That’s not heard of,” MacLennan said. “The fact that I was a part of it, and the girls on my team, I can call them family. I’m so glad it turned out the way it did. We’re in the books.”
