In the semis, the top-seeded Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions defeated the 12th-seeded Winnipeg Kelvin Clippers 49-27.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans clipped the 6th-seeded Winnipeg J.H. Bruns Broncos 55-48.
In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions edged the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans 62-58. “This is a dream come true, because ever since I was a little kid, I dreamed of winning the provincials,” said tournament MVP Pam Nowell, who scored 15. “Mr. (coach Bryan) Kornberger always talked to us about focus and that’s what won it for us today.” The Lions ripped off a 10-0 run late in the first half to take command. Yadili Okwumabua scored 27, including 13 of the Lions first 15 points, while dominating the boards. The Trojans trailed by 15 in the final quarter but rallied down the stretch, trimming the margin to five. But the Lions defence eventually held. “That’s been the way they played
all year. There’s no quit in these kids. I can say without hesitation that they left it all out on the floor,” said Trojans coach Jerry Hildebrand. “We’ve got a great group that anyone would love to coach. Having said that, Glenlawn played spectacular and Bryan had them so well-prepared. It’s a pleasure to play them. They’re quality people. Glenlawn’s
a quality act and we’re close friends.” Val Carson led the Trojans with 19. Evangeline Ezirim added 17.
