In the interzone finals, the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings dumped the Steinbach Sabres 90-43. “It’s good to have a big victory like this before provincials,” Vikings guard Jill Franklin told the Brandon Sun. The Vikings led 14-6 early as their pressure defence forced a series of miscues. “We really didn’t know what to expect from them except that they were a young team,” said Massey coach Dean Oakden. “So we just went with our normal game plan. But you have to give the girls credit. There was a lot on the line and the girls played hard.” The Vikings led 49-18 at the half. Katherine Shwaluk and Aynsley Laluk each scored 18 to pace the Vikings. Jill Franklin added 14, Vicki North 14, Kristal Guyda 14. Megan Toews led the Sabres with 13. Vikki Forsyth added 12. “We knew they would be strong because they’ve been ranked in the top 10 for most, if not all of the season. We expected to give them a bit of a game,” said Steinbach coach Steve Rebizant. “We weren’t necessarily expecting to win but we were hoping to give them a game.”
