Coach Stew Farnell told the Brandon Sun that his troops played passive, “pansy” ball, while the Lancers built a 34-18 lead off a 13-0 run generated through full-court pressure. “The first quarter killed us,” Farnell told the Brandon Sun. “We did not come to play. We just stood around. We were not moving, didn’t box out and didn’t rebound. They outhustled us in every aspect. But I’m really proud of them. We were down 16 at the half and came back and made a game out of it.” The Vikings trailed 50-41 with a minute left but consecutive three-pointers by Carlye Gabor and Pam Flick cut Dakota’s lead to three. But Terri-Lee Johannassen iced the win with a pair of free throws with 11 seconds on the clock. “We did everything we possibly could do,” said Farnell. “But when you’re down 16 there’s no way you can get back. Not against a team like that.” Dakota coach Peter Falk said that “in the final two minutes, Massey played super ball, tremendous ball. We were trying to play a slower game (in the second half) for layups and free throws. But we went to the free throw line and came away empty. Thankfully we had a sufficient lead.” Johannassen led the lancers with 22. Allison Laferty added 12. Pam Flick paced Massey with 26. Leesa Zemliak added 12.
