In the quarterfinals, the Winnipeg John Taylor Piperettes thrashed the Winnipeg River East Kodiaks 44-18 as Angie Johnson scored 14, Linda Pfeiffer 8, Greensway 6, Karen Downie 6 and Shiloff 4. Brenda Richardson led the Kodiaks with 8. Jill Wolstencroft added 4, Diarine Baran 3, Kathy Kopciuk 2 and Colleen Fox 1. The Kodiaks (coached by H. Schroeder) also included Betty Schepens, Lorraine Allan, Elizabeth Wiens, Marie Long, Barbara Nebozenko and Diarine Baran.
The Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojanettes dumped the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings 38-24 as Lesley Hanford scored 10, Brucie McBride 8, Janet Bendelow 7, Andrea Pollock 6, Perkins 3, Terry Pura 2 and Brown 2, while Carter, Benell and McMillican were scoreless. Dauna Cutforth scored 8 to lead the Vikings (coached by Stew Farnell). Laila Aidun added 4, Darlene Orser 4, Betty Purdie 3, Sharon Lukiw 2, Lynda Whyte 1, and Ainsley Collister 1, while Brenda Burke, Janice Meyers and Susan Caldbick were scoreless.
The Winnipeg Springfield Sabres crushed the Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons 42-21 as Shirley Taylor scored 32, Betty Anne Taylor 6, Jackson 2, Konkin 1 and Dauphinais 1. Janet Pazdor led the Maroons with 6. Wenzel added 4, Wright 4, Albrecht 3, Heindrick 3 and Johnson 1.
In the last quarterfinal, the St. Norbert Celtics stomped the Winnipeg Tec Voc Hornets 51-33 as Mary Ann Osterveen scored 15, Colette Olivier 8, Dinah Osterveen 5, Rachele Lajeunesse 4, Anita L’Heureux 3 and Elsima Dorge 2. Liz Doering paced the Hornets with 19. Doris Butz added 5, Charlotte Drielich 3, Debbie Ross 2 and Allyn Kustra 2. The Hornets (coached by Audrey Jones) also included Angie Multin, Marilyn Chin, Candy Toker, Sonia Dobrovolsky and Carol Souchereau.
In the semis, the Winnipeg John Taylor Piperettes dumped the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojanettes 31-24 as Angie Johnson scored 17, Linda Pfeifer 6, Karen Downie 4, Froese 2 and Bueckert 2. Janet Bendelow led the Trojanettes with 6. Brown added 6, Terry Pura 5, Bruce McBride 4, Lesley Hammerton 4 and Perkins 1. Trojanettes coach Dave McNabb told the Winnipeg Tribune “there was no way anyone could have played better than our girls did after that horrendous start (an 11-3 deficit). The girls came back in fine fashion but we were outplayed in the first quarter and that beat us.”
In the other semi, the Celtics from St. Norbert, a French village roughly eight miles from Winnipeg, defeated the Winnipeg Springfield Sabres 35-26 as Anita L’Heureux scored 8, Jeanine LaPointe 8, Mary Ann Osterveen 7, Dinah Osterveen 6, Rachele Lajeunnese 3, Colette Olivier 2 and Elsima Dorge 1. Shirley Taylor led the Sabres with 18. Jackson added 3, B Taylor 3 and Bedzietny 2.
No bronze medal match was held, with the coach’s having voted to eliminate the contest.
In the final, the Winnipeg John Taylor Piperettes defeated the St. Norbert Celtics 44-25 to deny the B division champs the improbable double. The Celtics led 9-7 after one quarter. The Piperettes led 17-14 at the half and 30-21 at the quarters and pulled away down the stretch. The Celtics were undone when post Mary Anne Osterveen fouled out in the second half. Linda Pfeiffer led the Piperettes with 11. Tourney MVP Angie Johnson added 10, Debbie Shiloff 8, Karen Downie 7, Bueckert 4, Sonnichsen 2 and Fraser 2. led the Piperettes with 10. Linda Pfeifer added 10. Anita L’Heureux paced the Celtics with 9. Jeanine LaPointe added 7, Dinah Osterveen 5, Mary Anne Osterveen 2 and Kooyman 2.
