In the quarterfinals, held in Brandon, the Portage la Prairie Pats nipped the Hamiota Huskies (then the Starlettes) 25-24 as Addy Ryngach hit a jumper from the top of the key at the buzzer. Ryngach finished 21. Frankie Little added 2 and Tamara Greenlay 2. The Huskies led 10-7, 18-9 and 22-15 at the quarters. Sheila Brooks led the Huskies with 8. Shirley Pedlow added 6, Carol Brooks 4 and Barbara Ann Scott 4. The Huskies (coached by Ralph Clark, assisted by Lorna Robertson, manager Al Robertson) also included Glenda Kirk, Terry Mclaren, Janice English, Bev Whyte, Audrey Brooks, Garda Williams, Lynn Woods, Betty Cormack, Yvette Williams, Lynda Johnson and Barbara Currah.
The Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings bombed the Grandview Spartans 49-12 as Vailla Hoggan scored 21, Sue Smith 9 and Linda McInnes 8. Louise Guillas led the Spartans with 7. The Spartans (coached by Mr Adamack and Mr Plewak) also included Janet Waslyshen, Bev Calcutt, Barb Lawson, Laura Steiner, Evelyn Harris, Maureen Grexton, Joan Wilson, Julie Mychasiew, Carol Dingwall and Betty Mardsley.
The Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions whipped the Flin Flon Kopper Kweens 58-14 after opening with a 19-1 run. Cecelia Cooper led the Lions with 12. Pam Cornwall added 8, Lonie Tuck 8 and Madelaine Gosman 8. Roberta Devine led the Kopper Kweens with 4. Brenda Cunningham added 3 and Sheila Mitchell 3. The Kopper Kweens also included Diane Wolosyn.
In the last quarterfinal, the Carman Cougars clipped the Winnipeg Garden City Gophers 31-23 as Sandra Letain scored 12, Lynn Sanders 9 and Kathy Lucking 6. Bonnie Gabbs led the Gophers with 14. The Gophers (coached by Bob Anthony) also included Bev Kerr, Penny Magnusson, Jane Chymy, Allyson Everard, Bev Kerr, Anita Miller, Valerie May, Bev Kowalyk and Diane Hilderman.
In the semis, the Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions defeated the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings 37-23 after leading 10-3, 19-8 and 30-17 at the quarters. Madelaine Gosman led the Lions with 9. Cecelia Cooper added 9 and Sandy McTavish 8. Vailla Hoggan paced the Trojans with 9. Sue Smith added 6 and Linda McInnes 5.
In the other semi, the Carman Cougars defeated the Portage La Prairie Trotters 28-13 after leading 17-5 at the half. Kathy Lucking led the Cougars with 10. Sandra Letan added 9 and Lynn Sanders 7. Addy Ryngach paced the Trotters with 10.
In the final, the Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions captured their second crown in four years with a 49-35 victory over the Carman Cougars as Cecelia Cooper scored 17, guard Sandy McTavish 13 and Madelaine Gosman 10. The Lions led 8-7, 28-18 and 40-20 at the quarters. Kathy Lucking paced the Cougars with 13. Sandra Letain added 10 and Lynn Sanders 8.
