Qualification was determined as follows: Winnipeg champ Kelvin; Winnipeg finalist Tec-Voc; Suburban champ Glenlawn; Suburban finalist Vincent Massey; Northern Manitoba zone champ Flin Flon; Western Manitoba zone champ Hamiota; Red River Valley zone champ Altona; Selkirk zone champ Portage.

        In the quarterfinals, the Hamiota Huskies stunned the prohibitive favourite Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions 27-24 in overtime on a bucket and a free throw by Joyce Iverton. The score was knotted at 24 after regulation on a bucket by Cathy Flow. Lynda Kidd led the Huskies with 7. Lyla Killoh added 5, Eileen Douglas 4, Joan Hudson 3, Cheryl McDougal 2, Faye Pollock 2, Joyce Twerden 2 and Gaylene Kidd 2. The Huskies hit 9-22 from the line. Jo-Anne Schultz led the Lionettes with 9. The Lionettes (coached by Ernie Gaudreau) also included Kay Wotton, Bev Moon, Frances Pfeffer, Sharon Przybylski, Cathy Flower, Liisa Nybard, Joanne Andrusko, Rosalia Harper, Mavis Giles, Janis Ranosky and Carol Marenshyn.

        The Altoona W.C. Miller Aces edged the Winnipeg Kelvin Katies 30-28 in double overtime as Elfrieda Falk hit the winner. The score was knotted at 15 at the half and at 26 after regulation and 28 after the first overtime. Esther Toews paced the Aces with 20. Wendy Stoker led the Katies with 13. The Katies (coached by C.L. Kerr) also included Ann Peart, Linda Vincent, Judy Taylor, Lynn Stratton, Sally Fisher, Georgine Kerr, Marilyn Down, Debby Kipp, Betty Waiters, Leigh Black, Marjorie Peart, Stepheni Donegani, Gail Gervelus, Judy Swan, Linda Buggey and Pat Campbell.

        The Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans clocked the Flin Flon Hapnot Kopper Kweens 36-15 after leading 13-5 at the half. Joyce Pura led the Trojans with 11. Joyce Osatchuk added 10. Lenore Larson led the Kopper Kweens with 6. Merle Duncan added 4. The Kopper Kweens also included Beryl Goldsmith, Sharon Mardis.

The Winnipeg Tec Voc Hornets clipped the Portage la Prairie Pats 19-14 as Mary Stepaniuk scored 11. Judy Preston led the Pats with 6. Roberta Little added 5. The Pats also included Sally Gillray, Gloria Ryan, Beverley Steeden, Irene Tomalin, Lois Eyvindson.

        In the semis, the Hamiota Huskies defeated the Winnipeg Tec Voc Hornets 17-16 despite trailing 10-5 at the half. Lynda Kidd hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to win it for the Huskies after being fouled by Iris Reynolds. Earlier, Kidd had missed two runout layups. Lynda Kidd paced the Huskies with 8. Eileen Douglas added 3, Lorna Richardson 2, Gaylene Kidd 2, Joyce Twerden 2 and Lila Killoh 2. Jean Wood led the Hornets with 13. Laurie Leveill added 3. Huskie Lyla Killoh notched a free throw after officials awarded her a second toss when the Tec Voc section of the audience cause a disturbance while she shot her first attempt. The free throw proved the difference. The Huskies hit just 1 of the 37 perimeter shots they attempted. Down the stretch, they began pounding the ball inside to pull out the win. A foul called against the Huskies was ruled to have occurred after the final buzzer sounded, ruling out Hornet chances of pulling out a victory at the line.

        In the other semi, the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans defeated the Altona W.C. Miller (then Altona Collegiate) Aces 29-18 as Judy Pura scored 11 and Mona Waugh 8. The Trojans led 15-5 at the half after extending their zone to deny Huskie shooters on the perimeter. Gayle Pollock added 4 and Gaylene Kidd 4. Esther Toews paced the Aces with 6. Muriel Funk added 5. The Huskies hit 8-13 from the line, while the Trojans were 9-28.

        In the final, the Hamiota Huskies clipped the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans 26-15. The Huskies had entered the tourney 22-2 on the season but were lightly regarded. Eileen Douglas and Lynda Kidd each scored 6 to pace Hamiota. Gaylene Kidd added 4, Joyce Twerden 2, Joan Hudson 2, Faye Pollock 2 and Lorna Richardson 2. The Huskies led 13-8, 24-11 and 26-15 at the quarters. Mona Waugh paced the Trojans with 6. Joyce Ostachuk added 4.
