In the final, the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Oak Park Raiders nipped the 4th-seeded Winnipeg St. Paul’s Crusaders 68-67 in overtime to capture their fifth provincial crown. The Crusaders led 22-12 after one quarter and 38-28 at the half. The Raiders led 47-43 after three quarters. The score was knotted at 63 after regulation. “What am I feeling? It’s just joy. Excitement,” tournament MVP Will Sesay told the Winnipeg Free Press. “It feels awesome. Just to know that all the hard work paid off, all those early mornings, all those practices. I feel so happy, so excited. They shot the ball really well early and it kind of rattled us a little bit. But coach calmed us down at the half and gave us a little licking. We came back and just kept fighting and fighting.” The Crusaders broke to a 10-0 lead and held the margin until there were two minutes remaining in the third quarter. St. Paul’s led 63-59 with 19 seconds on the clock. But Will Kohler forced overtime with a trey and a free throw. In the extra session, the Raiders bot a trey from Wyatt Tait and a bucket from Kohler. “Will Kohler was unbelievable in our last two games,” said Raiders coach Jon Lundgren. “He battled through a lot of growing pains and injuries during the season but when we needed him the most he was there for his brothers on the team. It was a beautiful thing to watch. … You remember all your groups and to remember them finishing on a good note is special because 99 per cent of your teams end with tears in the change room, just like St. Paul’s and just like we were close to being. For us to be able to end on a high note after all these years together is absolutely beautiful. I was worried at the tip, I was worried at the half, I was worried at the end, I was worried the entire game. Coaches always worry. I just wanted for them to play how we usually play and St. Paul’s to their credit, took us out of a lot of things we usually do.” William Kohler paced the Raiders with 25 on 8-19, 1-7 from the arc, 8-12 from the line and 9 boards.
