In the last quarterfinal, the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans dusted the Winnipeg River East Kodiaks 86-57 as Gary McIntosh scored 19. The Kodiaks (coached by Richard Gooch) included Dan Brown, Dave Purpur.
In the semis, the top-seeded Winnipeg Tec Voc Hornets defeated the Winnipeg Oak Park Raiders 84-65 after taking a 20-8 lead at the quarter, 44-23 at the half and 62-40 at the three-quarter mark. 6-3 Jason Chopp scored 28, Brian Trickett 16, Clive Griffiths 15 and Dwayne Trickett 13. 6-6 Chris Adam led Oak Park with 39. Tim Madder added 8. Chopp expected a tougher game but said coach Joe DiCurzio’s game plan was to “basically work the ball around, control the play and gradually work the ball inside” paid off. DiCurzio told the Winnipeg Free Press that “it’s a good thing Grant Stetina and Madder weren’t on their game, too. It’s a lot easier when only one of their shooters is hitting.” Chopp said he didn’t mind being outscored by Adam. “We’re playing tomorrow night and they’re not. I don’t really think about the individual game that much.” Chopp added that he expected a tougher game and that “the game plan was to basically work the ball around, control the play and gradually work the ball inside.”
In the other semi, the Winnipeg Westwood Warriors defeated the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans 65-61 as Joey Vickery scored 26. Gary McIntosh scored 15 for Massey.
In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Tec Voc Hornets defeated the Winnipeg Westwood Warriors 86-73 as Clive Griffiths scored 27. The Hornets were ahead 49-40 at the half but Westwood closed to within 64-61 in the third quarter despite losing star guard Joey Vickery to a twisted knee in a rebounding battle with Jason Chopp. Chopp finished with 16, Brian Trickett 15 and Werner Wicha 12. Tournament MVP Vickery led Winnipeg Westwood with 15. The top-seeded Hornets finished (47-4) on the season.
