The Winnipeg Elmwood Eskimos thrashed the Winnipeg Westwood Warriors 60-40. The Warriors (coached by Dave Guss, assisted by George Rugg) included Brent Vickery, Ross Reed, Bruce Rannard, Murray Gehman, Rob Schmitt, Rob Downey

In the last quarterfinal, the Selkirk Lord Selkirk Regional Royals stomped the Winnipeg Sisler Spartans 79-55. The Spartans included Mark Tynes, Joey Funk, Doug Bell, Cliff Sparrow, Chris Molloy.

        In the semis, the Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons rallied in the final minute to play to defeat the Winnipeg St. John’s Tigers 42-38. The Tigers went into a stall from the opening tip-off. “We had to,” coach Bill Wedlake told the Winnipeg Free Press. “If we had gotten into a quick game with them, they would have killed us. There would be too many rebounds.” Leony Ong led McIntyre with 12 points. Joe Ogoms added 11. Ron Balingat scored 11 for St. John’s. Devon Clunis added 8.

        In the other semi, the Selkirk Lord Selkirk Regional Royals defeated the Winnipeg Elmwood Eskimos 50-48. Forward Trevor Hoilett picked up his fourth foul with 1:11 to play in the third quarter and Garry Dear had only scored two points, so 6-6 forward Rob Laycock stepped up his game and 5-11 guard Bill Burrows, almost succumbed to pressure defence. Laycock scored 22. Hoilett finished with 11 points and Burrows 10. Blaine Acton led Elmwood with 21. Andre Mazur added 14. “This is the first time this year that anyone’s held Dear to two points, Royals coach Peter Gerbrandt told the Winnipeg Free Press. “We definitely expected them to key on him. But we were just lucky to have Laycock and Burrows to fill the gap.”

        In the final, the Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons defeated the Selkirk Lord Selkirk Regional Royals 52-47 as Joe Ogoms, held to five points in the first half, exploded for 20 in the second half. The Maroons finished (56-4) on the season and were celebrating the school’s 60th anniversary. “You couldn’t ask for a nicer way to end the season,” Maroons coach Laurie May told the Winnipeg Free Press. “We wanted to get the lead and then bring Joe (Ogoms) out. But (Selkirk) were playing really good defence. And it didn’t help that our big three –Ogoms, Scott Barlow, Neil Enns– shot 6-28 in the first half either. We were just lucky that Selkirk was also cold.” Ogoms was chosen the game MVP. Barlow scored 10 points and Ong 9. 6-2 f Trevor Hoilett scored 17 for Selkirk, including 9 in the first half. Ogoms noted “they double-teamed me in the first half and the guy at the top dragged me down. In the second half, we spread the offence out and made them come and get us. Then I was able to get free.”
