In the quarterfinals, the Winnipeg Dakota Lancers pasted the Morden Collegiate Mohawks 85-33 as Gary Puttaert scored 18, Gord Puttaert 14, Bob Paizen 14, Ken Chapman 14, Dave Greenwood 14, Bruce Benoit 4, Keith Krotch 4, Dale McDermid 2 and Bob Ogilvie 1. Kim Rach paced the Mohawks with 18. John Dell added 9 and Dale Krushell 6. The Mohawks (coached by Don Bell and Ralph King) also included Dave Gemmell, Garry Hamm, Bill Smiley, Victor Elias, Doug (Dave?) Gemmell, Brian Petkau, Glen Voth, Bob Loewen, Bill Enns, Paul Friesen, Henry Isaak, John Enns, Brian Andew, David Wiens and Aaron Penner.

        The Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans edged the Winnipeg Windsor Park Royals 43-41 in overtime. Dave Nason paced the Trojans with 12, while doing a stellar job on the boards. Brian Eger added 10, Glen Stockwell 6, Tom Marvin 5, Enns 4, Grant Robson 4 and Mel Zacharias 2. Rick Supeene paced the Royals with 11. Ron Smith added 9, Don Lamont 7, Darryl Rumsey 7, Joe Dodd 5, Steve Cadient 2 and McCracken 2. The Trojans struggled to handle the Royals zone. The Royals (coached by Ken Johanneson) also included Jerry Smith.

        The Winnipeg River East Kodiaks edged the Winnipeg Churchill Bulldogs 50-44 with a 22-9 run in the fourth quarter. The defence of Lori Thompson, Lyle Wilson and Craig Kushnier proved the difference. Wilson paced the Kodiaks with 11. Thompson added 9, Paul Hiebert 8, Jim Bauer 6, Kushnier 6, Klassen 5, Wilkinson 2 and Buller 1. Vic Krisciunas led the Bulldogs with 19. John Loewen added 9, Jamie Horne 5, John Rigby 4, Bob Keeley 4, Rick Slezak 2, Bernie Nikolai 2 and Richard Jacobowski 2. The Bulldogs (coached by Fred Taylor) also included Don Pincock, Bruce Zimmer, Ken Lenton and Gene Degen.

        The Winnipeg Gordon Bell Panthers clipped the Winnipeg St. Paul’s Crusaders 50-40 as Jon Hoole scored 15, Bruce Finlay 11, Doug Machuk 10, Ivans 7, Lyons 2, O’Brien 2 and Sheard 2. Rick Partyka scored 11 to pace the Crusaders (coached by Nick Lapping) who became the private schools’ representative in the draw after the Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute was disqualified by the MHSAA for failing to get sanction from the association for playing a preseason game against a team that was not affiliated with the MHSAA. Bob Hampton added 10, Cal Cameron 7, Al Kowalec 5, Van Walleghem 2, Pedda 2 and Chipman 1. The disqualified Brethren private school champs (coached by Bruce Enns, manager Ernie Wiebe, manager Ben Sawatsky, manager Brian Friesen) included Will Reimer, Neil Buller, Eric Fast, John Derksen, Henry Thiessen, Ray Van Styvendale, Carl Pauls, John Froese, Vic Martens and Ted Hassenruck.

In the semis, the Winnipeg Dakota Lancers smacked the Winnipeg River East Kodiaks 80-47 as Gord Puttaert scored 25, Garry Puttaert 22, Dave Greenwood 12, Ken Chapman 8, Bob Paizen 6, Bruce Benoit 3, Bob Ogilvie 2 and Keith Krotch 2. Lori Thomson led the Kodiaks with 12. Paul Hiebert added 11, Gerry Klassen 9, Craig Kushnier 7, Lyle Wilson 6 and Gord Gregg 2.

In the other semi, the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans handled the Winnipeg Gordon Bell Panthers 57-45 as Dave Nason scored 15, Brian Eger 13, Tom Marvin 12, Glenn Stockwell 8, Vic Enns 6 and Mel Zacharias 3. Jon Hoole led the Panthers with 13. Neil Lyons added 13, Dave Machuk 11, Bruce Findlay 4 and Gunar Ivans 4.

In the bronze medal match, the Winnipeg River East Kodiaks edged the Winnipeg Gordon Bell Panthers 49-47 as Paul Hiebert scored 14, Lori Thompson 11, Craig Kushnier 9, Gord Gregg 5, Gerry Klassen 4, Lyle Wilson 4 and Bauer 2. Jon Hoole led the Panthers with 14. Dave Machuk added 13, Bruce Findlay 10, Neil Lyons 8 and Gunar Evans 2. The Kodiaks led 19-8 after one quarter and 29-25 at the half. The Panthers (coached by Dave Lyon) also included Heinrich Rempel, Mike O’Brien, John Pagan, Adrian Pagan, Charles Shiaro and Dan Polson.

        In the final, the Winnipeg Dakota Lancers rebounded from their 1967 title loss to win the crown as they edged the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans 54-52. The Trojans man to man defense and Brian Eger’s defensive rebounding led Massey to an 11-8 lead after one quarter. But the Lancers Ken Chapman and Gary Puttaert dominated the second quarter as Dakota pulled ahead to a 28-19 lead at the half. The Lancers went stone cold in the third quarter while Tom Marvin got hot for Vincent Massey and keyed a rally to pull the Trojans back with three at the three-quarter mark, 41-38. The fourth quarter featured both teams trying to control the ball but Dakota prevailed as the Puttaert boys each scored four in the final quarter. Ken Chapman paced the Lancers with 18. Gary Puttaert added 15, Bob Paizen 9, Gord Puttaert 9 and Dave Greenwood 3. Brian Eger led the Trojans with 15. Dave Nason added 13, Tom Marvin 11, Glen Stockwell 5, Mel Zacharias 4 and Hugh O’Bradovich 4.
