In the final between Cloverleaf Conference rivals, the Winnipeg Glenlawn Lions defeated the Winnipeg Dakota Lancers 68-41. The Lancers had defeated Glenlawn five of seven times in Cloverleaf conference play but the provincial final belonged to the Lions as they used their 1-2-2 zone to effectively neutralize Winnipeg Dakota’s height advantage. The zone forced Winnipeg Dakota’s Bob Paizer and Dale McDermid to the outside and left Glenlawn’s big men, Ron Pelletier and George Johnson to dominate the boards and key the Lions fastbreak. Meanwhile, Winnipeg Dakota guns Rich Macey and Gordon Puttaert were forced to bomb from the outside. Glenlawn led 18-5 at the quarter and 36-23 at the half. Jan Kreutzer, rated the best player in the province, scored 15 in the third quarter alone, outscoring Winnipeg Dakota by four in the period. He finished with 25.
