In the quarterfinals, the Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons plastered Portage La Prairie Pats 80-25 as city all-stars Erick Bartz scored 17, Nick Papadakis 15, Ted Catchpole 13, Jim Marrese 12 and Jim Lange 11. The Maroons led 19-7, 37-9 and 55-18 at the quarters. Des Matei paced the Pats with 15. Pat starters Ed Rudolph, Rod Brownlee and Perry Robinson all fouled out. The Pats (coached by Adam Lovitt) also included Jan Green, Gordon Hoover.
The Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings stomped the Altona W.C. Miller (then Altona Collegiate) Aces 58-33 after leading 22-11 at the half. Garth Hillman paced the Trojans with 24. Clayton Wade added 21. Earl Dick led the Aces with 17. Barry Braun added 10. The Aces (coached by Harry Pauls) also included Rudi Epp, Kenn Driedger, Gerald Gerbrandt, Ron Braun, Danny Siemens, Ray Hoeppner and Douglas Reimer.
The Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans crushed the Selkirk Lord Selkirk Regional Royals 77-25 as Wayne Oliver scored 25, Sandy Hollinger 10 and Don Poustie 10. Rusty Rischuk and Les Zacharias each scored 5 to pace the Royals. The Royals also included William de Groot, Garry Keen, Home, Les Zacharias.
In the last quarterfinal, the Winnipeg Garden City Gophers clipped the Winnipeg Mennonite Brethren Hawks 55-47 as Dave Goulding scored 16 and Phil Rosen 12. Goulding scored on three consecutive drives into the paint down the stretch and Herb Rosen added an insurance bucket. Vic Wall led the Hawks with 16. Orlando Redekopp added 14. The score was knotted at 19 at the half. The Gophers led 33-31 after three quarters.
In the semis, the Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons defeated the Winnipeg Garden City Gophers 48-40 as Ted Catchpole scored 13 and Nick Papadakis 12. The Maroons led 27-16 at the half. John Bitchok paced the Gophers with 13. The Maroons struggled to contain the penetration dribble-drives of Bitchok and Wayne Winser but Erick Bartz dominated the boards and Nick Papadakis kept pilfering balls for runouts.
In the other semi, the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans defeated the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings 62-43 after leading 29-24 at the half. Grant Dunn led the Trojans with 20 by attacking off the dribble. Wayne Oliver added 18, including 14 in the second half, and Sandy Hollinger 13. Clayton Wade paced the Trojans with 22. Cam Bainfeather added 7 and Doug Ross 6.
In the final, the Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons defeated the Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans 51-47. The Maroons had defeated the Trojans three times during the regular season. With the margin at two points, the Trojans were called for travelling with 18 seconds to go, turning the ball over, setting the stage for a Ted Catchpole bucket from the corner. Nick Papadakis ensured the win with an and-one with two seconds to play. The Maroons were led by Nick Papadakis 15, Jim Lange 12 and Jim Marese 10. Vincent Massey was paced by Wayne Oliver 16, Grant Dunn 12 and Sandy Hollinger 9. The Trojans led 12-10 after one quarter. The Maroons led 22-20 at the half. The Trojans led 34-32 at the half.
