In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans thrashed the 8th-seeded Roblin Regals 101-13 after leading 46-3 at the half. Barry Marko paced the Trojans with 19. Wayne Oliver added 18, Bob Hogg 15, Murray Dickson 15, Ton Dunn 10 and Don Poustie 10. The Trojans led 20-1, 46-5 and 72-8 at the quarters. Howard Edel and Gordon (Gerald?) Horbay each scored 4 for the Regals. The Regals also included Robert Mitchell, Terry Hembroff.
The 3rd-seeded Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons crushed the 6th-seeded Flin Flon Sir Maurice Roche x 94-28 after leading 43-20 at the half. Nick Laping led the Maroons with 19. Jim Gommerman added 17, Nick Papadakis 12 and Ken Westlake 10. The Maroons hit 38-59 from the line as four Flin Flon starters (Bob Helmon, Ed Helmon, Jim Stewart and George Fric) fouled out. Bob Helmon led Sir Maurice Roche with 7. Ed Helman added 5, Neal Stephanson 5 and Jim Stewart 4.
The 4th-seeded St. Boniface Saints edged the 5th-seeded Morris Hawks 71-66 after leading 37-31 at the half. Ed Jubinville led St. Boniface with 23. C Laurin added 18. Ed Kehler paced the Hawks with 34. Bob Dyck added 16 and Wilmer Keck 11.
In the last quarterfinal, the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Nelson McIntyre Normacs clocked the 7th-seeded Brandon Collegiate Institute Blues 69-37 as Dwight Botting scored 15, John Baird 13, Jeff Mooney 10, Bob Bilan 10 and Rich Howden 8. The Normacs led 36-18 at the half. Ross Brownlee paced BCI with 9. Gene Shaharow added 8 and Morley English 7. The Blues (coached by Gordon Henderson) also included Ken Bellas, Bill Bohn, Doug Sawle, Bob Wilkins, Bill Carr, Glen Perry, Alan Robinson, Gord Dornbush, Kel Delbridge and Bruce Batt.
In the semis, the top-seeded Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans whipped the 4th-seeded St. Boniface Saints 100-36 after leading 55-15 at the half. Murray Dickson paced the Trojans with 33. Bob Hogg added 19, Wayne Oliver 18 and Barry Marko 14. Ed Jubinville led St. Boniface with 13.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Nelson McIntyre Normacs defeated the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre Maroons 62-33 to set up a rematch of the 1961 final. Jeff Mooney paced the Normacs with 14. Bob Bilan added 11, Larry Angus 10, Paul Ross 10 and Dwight Botting 9. Bob Hunter led the Maroons with 8 before fouling out. Ken Westlake added 7. The Normacs led 31-16 at the half and 46-24 after three quarters.
In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Vincent Massey Trojans edged the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg Nelson McIntyre Normacs 62-60. Vincent Massey, a short team but good ball handlers and good shooters, were up 19-12 at the first quarter, 32-30 at the half and 47-38 at the three-quarter mark. But coach Bernie Zakaluck’s Tigers drew to within one 54-53 with three minutes to go. Massey’s Barry Marko and Bob Hogg began to hit for the Trojans. They took a 62-60 lead as Hogg hit three of four free throws. A last-second flier by the Normacs Jeff Mooney hit the backboard and the rim but bounced away to prevent the tie. The Normacs, who’s been undefeated in suburban Winnipeg play, were led by Bob Bilan’s 19 points and Jeff Mooney’s 14. Wayne Oliver led Vincent Massey with 15, including 7-8 from the line. Murray Dickson added 13, including 11-11 from the line, Barry Marko 12, Tom Dunn 9 and Bob Hogg 6. The Trojans hit 28-34 from the line. Normacs point guard Dwight Botting was nailed for three fouls in the first quarter and a fourth shortly before the half. Botting sat out 10 minutes to start the second half and returned to draw the Normacs to within four from an 11-point deficit but then picked up his fifth foul. Post Bob Bilan soon found himself in foul trouble and the Normacs hopes quickly dissipated. Bilan, Paul Ross and Terry Angus also fouled out. Bilan led the Normacs with 19. Mooney added 14 and Botting 8.
