Cobras coach James Ballantyne told the Portage la Prairie Central Plains Leader that his squad’s height disadvantage proved too much of an obstacle. “We were a little overmatched in size and we had no luck inside. … We didn’t shoot very well. Brook Atkins led the Cobras with 7. Holly Schroeder added 5. The Cobras (coached by Ballantyne) also included Jenessa Banman, Kelly Savage. …………………………………………………… The 10th-seeded Souris Sabres crushed the 7th-seeded Carberry Cougars 51-32. The Cougars included Selena Creasy.
In the quarterfinals, the 5th-seeded Roblin Goose Lake Angels nipped the 4th-seeded Forrest Elton Sabres 62-58. The Sabres (coached by Jon Zilkey) included Katie Stiff, Larissa Lockerby, Morgan Belcher, Clarissa Parr.
The 8th-seeded Ste. Anne Lynx stunned the top-seeded Boissevain Broncos 70-61. Broncos coach Keith Forsyth said “it’s a funny game sometimes and then you see where Ste Anne was seeded. I think they were very much underestimated in the seedings. We knew they were a very tough team.” The Lynx size allowed them to dominate the paint. The Broncos (coached by Keith Forsyth) included Taya Stobbe.
The 2nd-seeded Niverville Panthers defeated the 10th-seeded Souris Sabres 70-62 as Brittany Adrian scored 28.
In the last quarterfinal, the 6th-seeded Teulon Saints dumped the 3rd-seeded Russell Major Pratt Trojans 60-48. The Trojans included Stacey Dunn, Chyanne Benn, Haylan Jackson.
In the semis, the 2nd-seeded Niverville Panthers crunched the 6th-seeded Teulon Saints 70-55.
In the other semi, the 8th-seeded Ste. Anne Lynx dumped the 5th-seeded Roblin Goose Lake Angels 66-58.
In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Roblin Goose Lake Angels defeated the 6th-seeded Teulon Saints 55-44.
In the final, the 2nd-seeded Niverville Panthers whipped the 8th-seeded Ste. Anne Lynx 67-53 as Brittany Adrian scored 22. Panthers coach John Falk told reporters that “I am so proud of the girls, it was awesome, they worked so hard all season long. Brittany is a great player with a great attitude, she is our leader.”
