In the quarterfinals, held in Warren and Stonewall, the 3rd-seeded host Wildcats dusted the 6th-seeded Roblin Goose Lake Raiders 73-30.
The 2nd-seeded Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders clocked the 7th-seeded Neepawa Tigers 76-48 as Michelle Jernberg scored 33. The Tigers were coached by Darren Roe.
The top-seeded Boissevain Broncos dumped the 8th-seeded Altona W.C. Miller Aces 58-42. The Aces included Kim Bergman.
In the last quarterfinal, the 4th-seeded Lorette Scorpions dispatched the 5th-seeded Killarney Raiders 50-42.
In the semis, the Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders defeated the Warren Wildcats 51-45 as Melissa Hovorka scored 15.
In the other semi, the Boissevain Broncos nipped the Lorette Scorpions 50-49.
In the bronze medal match, the Warren Wildcats clipped the Lorette Scorpions 57-48. The Scorpions included Andrea Pytel.
In the final, the Sprague Ross L. Gray Raiders defeated the top-seeded Boissevain Broncos 50-45 in overtime. Tournament MVP Michelle Jernberg paced the Raiders with 25. Sue Broadfoot led the Broncos with 20. Sprague Ross L. Gray had only 17 girls in the school. The Warriors were coached by firebrand John Bukich. “Some people don’t understand that he’s not yelling at us because he’s mad, he’s just helping us,” said Raider guard Michelle Jernberg, the tourney’s MVP. “Actually, when he’s not yelling you start thinking something is wrong.” Bukich said. “I’m constantly involved in the game, I’m not just yelling at them. My girls are used to it, they listen all the time. Some people may not like my style but it has helped us. I’m like their conscience on the floor.” Boissevain led 19-16 after one quarter and 33-23 after three quarters. The Raiders trailed by 11 with five minutes to play but Deanna Chenier hit four consecutive buckets to eventually force overtime at 45-45. Raiders coach John Bukich order his troops to stall for most of the extra period before Melissa Hovorka came off the bench and notched a three-point play with 17 seconds remaining in overtime to pull out the win. Jernberg iced it with three free throws.
