In the final, Aubrey Ferris completed a B double by coaching the Brandon Vincent Massey Trojans to the B title, as they pounded the Melita Marauders 44-14. “The girls were up 34-8 at the half. They really had an easy time of it throughout the tournament. I’m not sure that is good for them going into the (A) provincials,” Ferris said. Dori McPhail led Vincent Massey with 14 points. Val Meyers and Anne Thompson each added 10. Susan Jobbins led Melita with 6 points. Patsy Gall added 4 and Diane Ross 4. “These games don’t do us any good at all,” Vikings coach Stew Farnell told the Brandon Sun. “Now we bead for the Provincial “A” tournament with three easy games under our belts, and that’s not any good.” The Vikings struggled early with the Marauders full-court press. The problem was nerves,” said Farnell. “And maybe some stubbornness. We were trying to dribble through a zone press, and you just can’t do that. We had to call a couple of timeouts to get things straightened out, but when we did, we were OK.” Massey finished (28-6) on the season.
