In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Killarney Raiders dispatched the 8th-seeded Niverville Collegiate Panthers 75-63. The Panthers (coached by Richard Toews) included Keiron Berndt, Brendan Derksen, Barak Doell, Matt Dyck, Elijah Farley, Chris Fast, Riley Fast, Chris Giesbrecht, Owen Loyola, Levi Pastoor, Steven Ruchkall, Brandon Schurko and Fedrico Smith.

The 5th-seeded Steinbach Christian Flames dumped the 4th-seeded Carman Cougars 74-63. “Our defense won us that game,” Josh Lepp told Steinbach Online. “We had some real strong defense by our post players. It was a real good team win.” The Cougars (coached by Jacquie Metcalf) included Kole Bergman, Justin Blanco, Riley Ens, Carter Janzen, Mark Klassen, Mason Metcalf, Rylan Metcalf, Bryce Neff, Scott Owen, Jordan Riddell and Brett Wiebe.

The 2nd-seeded Landmark Collegiate 96ers nipped the 7th-seeded Cranberry Portage Frontier Collegiate Institute Raiders 69-68. The Raiders (coached by Tyler Johnston) included Brydon Bighetty, Keegan Castel, Littlerapids Colomb, Devon Halkett, Linden Merasty, Duran Miles, Jaiden Moise, Jimmy Spence and Devon Williams.

In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Ste. Anne Collegiate Lynx edged the 6th-seeded Gretna Mennonite Collegiate Institute Blues 65-62. The Blues (coached by Chad Effa, assisted by Kieran Reynolds) included Fan Cai, Josh Driedger, Nick Driedger, Brendan Enns, Justin Krahn, Matthew Lee, Will Perrin, Caleb Rempel, Dawson Thiessen, Kelvin Vielman, Josh Voth and Matthew Wong.

In the semis, the 5th-seeded Steinbach Christian Flames stunned the top-seeded Killarney Raiders 70-65. “There was a lot of emotion in that game,” guard Josh Lepp told Steinbach Online. “We were battling back-and-forth with them. It wasn’t like any team really pulled away. In the dying seconds we were up by one and then we got a steal. Wellington Driedger hit a three to seal the deal. That was a very exciting game for us.”

In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Landmark Collegiate 96ers defeated the 3rd-seeded Ste. Anne Collegiate Lynx 55-50.

In the bronze medal match, the top-seeded Killarney Raiders dusted the 3rd-seeded Ste. Anne Collegiate Lynx 64-48. The Lynx (coached by Erik Leefe) included Derrick Bassa, Trevor Broesky, Alex de Jong, John Peter de Jong, Mike de Jong, Austin Hardy, Liam Lenton, Tyler Nicholls, Maryk Reimer and Wayne Tobacco.

In the final, the 5th-seeded Steinbach Christian Flames nipped the 2nd-seeded Landmark Collegiate 96ers 69-68 as Josh Lepp drained a 14-footer with three seconds to play. “As soon as it left my hands, I knew it was in and my first thought was to get back on defense because that would be crushing if they would score,” Lepp told Steinbach Online. “They took the shot and it didn’t go in and it was pretty much a blur after that. It was a rush of emotion and everyone is jumping over each other. It was a pretty good experience.” The Flames outscored the 96ers 25-7 in the last quarter as they rallied from a double-digit deficit. “It’s quite an honour to be able to have that title,” Lepp said. “We’re a bunch of Grade 11’s coming into the tournament ranked fifth. It’s something that’s hard to explain but it’s definitely an honour.” The Flames did not have a single grade 12 student on the roster. “I’m extremely excited for that,” said Lepp. “At the beginning of the season coach told us it was going to be a learning year and we were going to get adjusted to the intensity of varsity ball. If we want to win games, we have to have more details right than the other team. I think that’s really what we did this year and going into the provincials, that’s what we tried to accomplish. It’s real exciting to think that a bunch of Grade 11’s won varsity provincials and that we’ll be back with an even stronger team next year as some real good jv’s are going to come up and help us.”
