Wildcats coach Caty Pleskach told the Stonewall Argus and Teulon Times that Mustangs were a tough match-up. “They are kind of our arch rivals. It’s a good rivalry, we play each other a lot and both teams know each other really well so that was actually probably the toughest game of the tournament.” Mustangs coach Myron Friesen told the Lac La Prairie Central Plains Leader that his troops suffered defensive lapses. “Our defence was what helped us all season long. That was the biggest attribute of our team. … We had a few little let-ups. In the second half, we gave them a few too many second-shot opportunities and because of that, we just came up a little bit short.”
In the bronze medal match, the 6th-seeded MacGregor Mustangs dispatched the 4th-seeded Niverville Panthers 67-57. Mustang Myron Enns later received the Player’s Choice Award. Mustangs coach Myron Friesen told the Lac la Prairie Central Plains Leader that “we played really well as a team. We had a couple of really good individual performances — Dylan Martins played spectacularly and Kyle Buhler was amazing as well. Both those kids probably played their best games of the year.”
In the final, the 2nd-seeded Warren Wildcats hammered the top-seeded Killarney Raiders 85-59. J.J. Whitt paced the Wildcats with 31. Tournament MVP Steven Olson added 29. The final, I just let them go and they just wanted it more… it was a pretty awesome game. … Once we were in that final game, it was like the gold medal or nothing. … They met every goal all year, but they grew. We never peaked early, the peak came on the perfect day, the last game, every kid played hard. … We were the underdogs, we were number two. The boys, you could just tell they were going to be on fire the whole game. All weekend they were focused, we had really good team meetings, really good planning into every game and they were just ready to go.”
