In the final, the top-seeded Boissevain Broncos defeated the Killarney Raiders 79-63 to earn their first provincial title. Tournament MVP Mike McCallum and Ryan Bell each scored 19 to pace the Broncos. John Anderson added 14. Mike Smith paced the Cougars with 18. John Janzen added 17. For coach Rod Tukaluke, it was the culmination of a three-year rebuilding program and the win left him in tears. “Those were tears of joy,” Tutkaluke said. “There is a lot of pride involved with this team and a lot of time. Last year we figure we put in 350 hours into playing basketball. I started off with most of these kids in Grade 10, last year we hoped to do well at the championships but we were quickly disposed of.” The Broncos finished (32-3) on the season, losing twice to a team from North Dakota. The win was the Broncos fifth over the Cougars on the season. “Going into the final we beat them by an average of 23 points but we knew that would not be the case in the last game,” said Tutkaluke. “If anybody knew how to play against us it was Killarney.” The Broncos post defence proved the difference. “I thought Mike (McCallum) would get frustrated with the way they were double teaming him, they held him to 12 points one time doing that,” said Tutkaluke. “But he just kept going. What helped a lot was John Anderson had a whale of a first half and Ryan Bell played a great game for us.”
