The tournament was expanded to 16 teams under the auspices of the newly created BC Senior Secondary Girls’ Basketball Association. Teams were divided into four divisions and each team played a round robin within its division. The winners and second-place finisher of each division qualified for the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, the Salmon Arm Jewels defeated the Victoria Claremont Spartans 37-28. The Spartans included Jeannie McHattie, Barb Tribe, Trish Spooner, Diane Benn, Joan Sandwith, Brenda Brackenberry, June Ferrill, Shelley Dodds, Elizabeth Lex.
The Merritt Pantherettes edged the Nanaimo District Islanders 33-29. The Islanders included Judy Magnum, Eloise Dunbar, Ann Dunsmore, Brenda McFarlane, Gail Curtis, Andrea Smith, Lyn Stephens, Marnie Dickie, Laurie Sawden.
The Vancouver Sir Charles Tupper Tigers edged Courtenay 32-29 in overtime. Courtenay included Linda Goodsell, Diane Schelich, Lyn Rowland, Val Moore, Bev Barnes, Rose Witzel, Phyllis Allen, Heather Witzel, Wilma Richardson, Dianne Richardson.
In the last quarterfinal, the McBride Mustangs dispatched the North Vancouver Hillside Highwaymen: 36-29. Hillside all-star Kathy Williams later married Ken Shields and became the winningest coach in CIS history at the University of Victoria.
In the semis, the Salmon Arm Jewels defeated the McBride Mustangs 49-24 as Linda Willard scored 18. McBride was paced by Djanna Brossick’s 14 points.
In the other semi, the Merritt Panthers defeated the Vancouver Sir Charles Tupper Tigers 32-20 as Gerta Post scored 12. Tupper was led by Mary’s Sole’s seven points.
In the bronze medal match, the Vancouver Sir Charles Tupper Tigers topped the McBride Mustangs 26-14. The Mustangs included Diana Brozuk.
The final was a rematch of the Okanagan Valley regional title game, which Salmon Arm had won by eight points. The Jewels again prevailed, thrashing Merritt 41-16 as Jo-anne Gloyn scored 14, Linda Willard 7, Janice Tatchell 6 and Mary Van Hoof 6. The Jewels led 20-12 at the half. Merritt was led by Arlene Wallwin’s nine points.
