In the final, the Abbotsford Yale Lions defeated the Surrey White Rock Christian Academy Warriors 49-40. The Lions shook off an uneasy and frustrating first half to pull out the win. Lions coach Al Friesen said it took a total team effort. “At halftime, I told the kids they weren’t going to win this by themselves. They haven’t won anything by themselves all year,” said Friesen. “If you play defence and you board well enough the dam will break. The kids all want to play, but it’s over and I can’t say enough about their heart. It’s just amazing.” Warriors coach John Dykstra said “I’m super proud of my guys. [WRCA] is the greatest place to coach in the world and it’s a complete honour and a privilege to be the leader of the basketball program and athletic director of the school. Sorry we can’t bring home the gold, but these guys are champions, everyone here and all those kids cheering and all those parents in the stands, they’re also champions.” The score was knotted at 12 after one quarter.
