The Eagles led 18-8 after one quarter but Totems coach Porky Andrews shifted to a full court press and their transition game soon had them in the lead. The totems led by 5 with minutes to play. George Heidebrecht hit a bucket and Ed Suderman a pair of three throws as the Eagles trimmed the margin to one but the Totems hung on for the win. The tide turned in favour of the Irish when two-time BC all-star John Olsen was forced out of the game in the first quarter with a severe ankle sprain. Charlie Lipp added 8, Dennis Bibby 6, Mike Hurley 5, Robert Dumont 4 and Dave McCleery 4, while Les Poltak, Paul Munsie, Pivass, Tom Dixon, Donald and Elvemark were scoreless. The Totems led 35-21 with seven minutes to play. But Neil Williscroft hit a jumper, Ian Donald a layup and a free throw, Charles Lipp stole the ball for a layup and Williscroft added a layup as the Fighting Irish closed to within 35-30. They could draw no closer. The Totems hit 16-43 (.370) from the floor and 6-13 from the line. The Fighting Irish hit 16-39 (.410) from the floor and 2-8 from the line.
