My dad and mom got married straight out of high school. My mom was the head cheerleader and my dad was the starting guard on the B.C. championship team. It was like a hokey movie. Dad couldn’t keep playing because he had to work to support the family, but he passed on his passion for basketball and all sports to us.” Years later, Don Eberhardt noted that “we were 11 Grade 11’s and one Grade 12, and he was an exceptional player,” remembers Don of tournament MVP Brent Watson. “It’s a funny thing, because when you’re 17 or 18, it seems like it’s taken you forever to get there. But then you get into your mid 60s and you wonder ‘Where did the time go?’” Magee coach Jack Suderman was 20 years old, coaching his brothers Henry, 18, and Ed, 16.
