In the quarterfinals, held in Langley, the Enderby A.L. Fortune Falcons defeated Victoria St. Margaret’s 66-64 as Marilyn Abel scored 17.
The Rossland Royals whipped the Agassiz Eagles 62-45.
The West Vancouver Collingwood Cavaliers crushed the Smithers Bulkley Valley Christian Royals 64-25. The Royals (coached by Ken Vander Horst) included Carmen McEwen, Angela Duursma, Carolyn Adema, Rachel Nicolai, Stephanie Spyksma.
In the last quarterfinal, the Langley Credo Christian Kodiaks dispatched the Burns Lake Lake District Lakers 71-58. The Lakers (coached by Peter Nelleweg) included Pam Mattman, Nicole Mattman, Jennifer Nallaweg, Juline Peterson.
In the semis, the Enderby A.L. Fortune Falcons defeated the Rossland Royals 45-41 as Allison Treat scored 19, Paola Konge 10 and Alana Alyard 10. The Falcons led 19-18 at the half.
In the other semi, the West Vancouver Collingwood Cavaliers defeated the host Langley Credo Christian Kodiaks 56-43.
In the bronze medal match, the Rossland Royals defeated the Langley Credo Christian Kodiaks 72-61.
In the final, the Enderby A.L. Fortune Falcons nabbed its first A girl’s title by defeating the West Vancouver Collingwood Cavaliers 54-49 in overtime. It was the second consecutive runner-up finish for Collingwood. The Lady Falcons from Enderby led most of the way, but the Collingwood kids chipped away patiently and led by four with 1:01 to play. A three-point bomb and a free throw knotted the score at 43-43 as the affair headed to overtime. Allison Treat paced the Falcons with 21. Marilyn Abel added 10. Falcons coach Chuck McTavish told the Vernon Morning Star that “it was an excellent game. We were up by 13 points in the third quartre but they came on like gangbusters in the fourth and went ahead by four.” In the extra session, Collingwood hit six free throws to take a 49-45 lead. But tournament MVP Allison Treat hit a trey to draw the Falcons within one and then Marilyn Able hit two free throws and then Paola Konge iced it by pilfering the ball for a runout. Alana Aylward found Bunny Purnell for a runout as the Falcons broke it open.
