Immaculata started out quickly and never looked back. They were in complete control throughout the game. Sentinel, which jumped out early on the Knights as Strong scored 17. But Mark Veenbaas contributed throughout, dominating the inside game for Abbotsford Christian. The Knights stretched the lead out in the 2nd half and then had to hold on as a determined Mt. Sentinel team tried to close the score up. The score went to a 7-point difference a couple of times, but Abbotsford Christian had the answers. In the best game of the day, neither team could establish itself in the first half. After being tied at 25 at the half, Unity opened up a small lead of 5 to 9 points for much of the half. However, the Wolves closed the score up and with a late run got to within 2 points. The Wolves had last shot with 3 seconds left to tie, but they missed and Unity held on for the upset. Aron Simpson was chosen player of the game for the Titans. Matt Gladstone was selected player of the game for the Eagles after scoring 37. Gladstone made six three pointers, many from NBA range. Mulgrave confidently held the lead in the first half until about two minutes to go, when QC made a run to climb within 3 points. Mulgrave came out strong to start the second half going on a 10 to 2 run to reclaim the lead which was too much for QC to handle. The Eagles also included Denver Cross, Kye Borserio, Brionne Lavoie, Joel Young, Jonah Collinson, Dwyer Cross, Cory Williams, Allan Friesen, Kyle Shannon and Eddie DeBucy. …………………………………………………… The 6th-seeded Clearwater Secondary Raiders edged the 11th-seeded Fraser Lake Cougars 58-53 as Jeremy Gale scored 16 and was chosen player of the game. Cody Raymond was chosen player of the game for the Cougars after scoring 21. The game was close throughout. Fraser Lake got out to an early lead, but Clearwater came back with an 8-point run to take the lead. Clearwater held a slim 6-point lead at the half, but Fraser Lake gradually overcame that to take a 41-39 lead with 7 minutes to go in the game. Fraser Lake opened up a 48-41 lead, but it was all Clearwater from there. An 8-0 run keyed the comeback as Clearwater roared back to take the lead 49-49. Fraser Lake had trouble on the line, shooting 4-18, which would be their undoing. The Cougars (coached by Evan Mueller, assisted by Dan Duncan) also included Bobby Anderson, Oliver Anderson, Jodi Harder, Derek Best, Ethan Schroeder, Ben Harris, Ryan Peters, Zack Anderson, Patrick Cook and Tyler Daniel.

        In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Victoria Glenlyon-Norfolk Gryphons dumped the 8th-seeded Abbotsford Christian Knights 92-60 as Tyler Thoreau scored 33 and Michael Abby 21. Mark Veenbaas paced the Knights with 21. Knights player of the game Cody Vanderwal added 17. Glenlyon led the entire game. Their full court pressure was too much for Abbotsford as they forced the Knights into numerous turnovers. The Knights (coached by Stuart Bakker, assisted by Hans Dieleman) also included Reuben Vanderveen, Steve Kampman, Steve Kim, Mark Vanderwal, Justin Thiessen, Chris Han, Tim Vaandrager, Jason Doppenberg, Aaron Penner, Nathan Beukens, Brian Van Garderen, Brandon Davis and Corwin Timmermans.

        The 4th-seeded Kelowna Immaculata Regional Mustangs crushed the 5th-seeded Langley Credo Christian Kodiaks 93-51 as Brendon Peron scored 16 and Derek Blucke 16. Matt Cosar was chosen player of the game for the Mustangs. Jayden Kuik led the Kodiaks with 13. Jeremy Meyer was chosen player of the game for Credo. Immaculata used full court pressure to build and early lead that they never gave up. Credo had trouble dealing with the quickness of the Immaculata guards. The Kodiaks (coached by Jason Vanderhorst, assisted by Jon Dykstra) also included Brian Deleeuw, Trevor Bikker, Matt Huttema, James Vanderhorst, Josh Vanderploeg, Julian Vandyke, Mitch Kuntz, Peter Vanbrederode and Craig Kobes.

        The 2nd-seeded Langley Christian Lightning defeated the 10th-seeded Chilliwack Unity Christian Flames 75-67 as Matthew Hansen scored 24. Ken Wong was chosen player of the game for the Lightning. Flames player of the game Rob Vanderkamp scored 14 for Unity, as did Scott Elzinga and Kevin Taekema. In a seesaw battle, both teams took turns leading. Folkerts and Plantinga got into foul trouble for Langley, but they managed to open up a 10-point lead with Folkerts on the bench. Unity used their size and some terrific 3-point shooting by Elzinga to keep the game within reach. But, down the stretch Langley made 4 crucial free throws to seal the victory. The Flames (coached by Ron Dick, assisted by Casey Sas) also included Jeff Dressler, Micah Galmut, Marcel Taekema, Chris Haan, Eric Swift, David Van Muyen, Justin Vugteveen, Peter Gouwenberg and Matt Davidson.

        In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded West Vancouver Mulgrave Titans stomped the 6th-seeded Clearwater Secondary Raiders 72-42 as player of the game Guillaume Curaudeau scored 25. Raiders player of the game Lucas Allen scored 11 to lead Clearwater. The Raiders got off to a quick start, and a close battle ensued for the first quarter. But Mulgrave had an 11-2 run to end the half as they opened up a 33-20 lead. Mulgrave went on a 20-5 run to start the 2nd half and cruised to victory. The Raiders (coached by Bob Dodds, assisted by Johnathan Brady) also included Jeremy Gale, Jeffery Mullen, Kevin Smith, Bowen Leier, Steven McKay, Ryan Graffunder, Jeff Korall, Bryan Cederholm, Trevor Yoemans and Andrew Mann.

        In the semis, the 2nd-seeded Langley Christian Lightning edged the 3rd-seeded West Vancouver Mulgrave Titans 61-59 as Mike Plantinga scored 23 and Keith Folkerts 15. Plantinga was chosen player of the game for the Lightning. Aaron Simpson was chosen player of the game for the Titans after scoring 24. Guillaume Curaudeau added 14. It was a game of runs. Mulgrave started hot and jumped out to the lead. Langley responded and tied the game just before halftime. Mulgrave came out and built an 8-point lead again. But Keith Folkerts and Mike Plantinga responded for Langley and took the Lightning on a late run, keyed by Folkerts hitting big shot after big shot. Aaron Simpson kept Mulgrave in the chase hitting 8 three-point shots in the game. But in the end, Langley handled Mulgrave’s press and was able to move into the championship final.

        In the other semi, the top-seeded Victoria Glenlyon-Norfolk Gryphons nipped the 5th-seeded Kelowna Immaculata Regional Mustangs 91-87 as player of the game Tyler Thoreau scored 36. Kyle Thoreau added 25. Derek Blucke led Immaculata with 31. Andrew Gini was chosen player of the game for the Mustangs after adding 30. Glenlyon-Norfolk advanced to the championship for the 3rd straight year. This was a back and forth game, with both teams full-court pressing and fast breaking. Outstanding shooting by Gini of Immaculata and the Thoreau brothers of GNS lead to a high scoring affair. In a game of runs, GNS had the last run with 4 minutes to go in the game, and then held on as Immaculata had 3 chances to get the score to a 2-point difference, but they fell just short.

        In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Kelowna Immaculata Regional Mustangs edged the 3rd-seeded Mulgrave Titans 77-74 as player of the game Derek Blucke scored 24. Andrew Gini added 23. Robert Durman was chosen player of the game for the Titans after scoring 27. Guillaume Curaudeau added 26. Immaculata jumped out to a quick lead, but they couldn’t put Mulgrave away. A late surge at the end of the game gave Mulgrave a chance to tie the game, but Immaculata hit just enough free throws to hold onto the win. The Titans (coached by Paul Cohee, assisted by Kian Abghari) also included Ben Bengtson, Zack Campbell, Steve Hur, Zak Nash, Jon Obertas, Matt Senecal-Junkeer, Noah Senecal-Junkeer, Mark Simons, Aaron Simpson, Will Steeves and Kevin Yildirim.

        In the final, the top-seeded Victoria Glenlyon-Norfolk Gryphons stomped the 2nd-seeded Langley Christian Lightning 90-58 as Tyler Thoreau scored 25 and Kyle Thoreau 22. Mike Platinga paced the Lightning with 19. Keith Folkerts was chosen player of the game for Langley Christian after scoring 16. Early foul trouble spelled doom for Langley Christian. Four minutes into the game Langley’s Keith Folkerts had 3 fouls and had to head to the bench. Then Langley’s other star, Mike Plantinga, got his 3rd foul of the quarter and the Lightning were in big trouble. They finished the first quarter with 6 team fouls, 3 on each of their stars. Glenlyon didn’t waste the opportunity as they applied terrific pressure and moved out to a 20-point lead by the half. Glenlyon never looked back as they cruised to the provincial championship. Lightning coach Matt Van Muyen told the Langley Advance that “I was disappointed we lost by 30-something points; we wanted to go out and make a really tough game. We worked really hard but it didn’t happen. … I thought we looked tired in the final. We had a great game against Mulgrave and we had fight through that game, and Glenlyon was not going to be denied.”
