The North Vancouver St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints defeated Trail J.L. Crowe Hawks 49-39 after leading 21-20 at the half. Juliana Ramza scored 19 for Aquinas and Angela Aydon 18. Ramza added 10 boards, while Aydon and Carly Wignes each nabbed 9 for Aquinas, coached by Michael Campbell, brother of B.C. premier Gordon Campbell. Adrienne Deluca scored 14 for J.L. Crowe. The Hawks also included Nickey Connell.
The 11th-seeded Vancouver Little Flower Academy Angels defeated the Kamloops Valleyview Vikings 58-55 in double overtime. Little Flower took an early 17-4 lead but Valleyview rallied back to force overtime on a Candace Dalin shot that was debatably before the buzzer. A scoreboard miscue also prompted a wrangle but when all was done the game continued into overtime, when Little Flower needed a last second free throw to force an extra session before finally prevailing because of their depth. Bridget O’Brien scored the winning bucket. Caroline Cannon led Little Flower with 26. Dalin led Valleyview led 15. Mya Chieduch added 14 and Bailey Dagneau 13. The Vikings also included Sarah D’Arcy.
In the last quarterfinal, the Maple Ridge Westview Wildcats defeated the Kamloops Westsyde Whundas 48-34 as Carlee Babcock scored 15 and Leah Garrigus 11. Michelle Lowey led the Whundas with 17. The Whundas also included Emma Lasnik.
In the semis, the Vancouver York House Tigers defeated the North Vancouver St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints 61-50. The Tigers led 26-10 after a quarter and maintained a double-digit lead to the final buzzer. Lisa Tindle scored 27, including 25 in the first half. She added 6 steals. Robyn Wilson added 11 points and 10 boards. Juliana Ramza led Aquinas with 16. Angela Aydon added 14.
In the other semi, the 11th-seeded Vancouver Little Flower Academy Angels defeated the Maple Ridge Westview Wildcats 49-45 after withstanding a furious second half challenge from Westview. Bridget O’Brien led Little Flower with 18, including a pair of free throws to ice the game and 6-6 shooting from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Liz Cordinier added 10. Carlee Babcock led Westview with 9.
In the bronze medal match, the Maple Ridge Westview Wildcats defeated the North Vancouver St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints 51-43. The Saints included Juliana Ramza, Courtney Campbell.
In the final, the Vancouver York House Tigers defeated the 11th-seeded Vancouver Little Flower Academy Angels 66-55 to hand the Vancouver based school its fifth straight defeat in the provincial final. York House led 30-22 at the half. Lisa Tindle paced York House with 22 points and 9 assists. Carolyn Churchland added 12. Robyn Wilson nabbed 11 boards. Carolyn Cannon led Little Flower with 21. Bridget O’Brien added 15. “I am so excited, I’m so excited,” Maddie Robson told the Vancouver Sun. “It’s even more exciting this year because it’s my grade 12 year.” Grade 10 point guard Tingle called it a “huge” win. “We had a target on our backs the whole tournament and we came through. We knew we were the team to beat in the tournament but we didn’t play scared.” Angels guard Bridget O’Brien said “yes, it was disappointing that we lost, but we could look back on the fact we did make it to the final.”
