In the quarterfinals???, The Vanderhoof Nechako Valley Viqueens stunned the top-seeded and undefeated (33-0) Kelowna K.L.O. Cougars 55-43 as Linda Hoek scored 22 and Linda Svenson 14, while Kathy Nichiporuk dished 6 assists.
In the other quarterfinal??, the Lake Cowichan Lakers dispatched the Vancouver Little Flower Academy Angels 67-62.
In the semis, the Maple Ridge Garibaldi Rebels clipped the Vanderhoof Nechako Valley Viqueens 45-39 in overtime. The Viqueens led 28-23 at the half. The score was knotted at 35 after regulation. Linda Hoek paced the Viqueens with 23 points and 16 boards. Ann Stephen added 6, Linda Svenson 5, Sheri Brophy 3 and Joan Krieger 2, while Peble Sutton nabbed 13 boards.
In the other semi, the Lake Cowichan Lakers defeated the Creston Prince Charles Comets 68-57.
In the bronze medal match, host Creston Prince Charles Comets defeated the Vanderhoof Nechako Valley Viqueens 42-40 in overtime. The Comets led 18-17 at the half. Linda Hoek paced the Viqueens with 20. Linda Svenson added 10, Ann Stephen 6 and Kathy Nichiporuk 4. The Viqueens also included Peble Sutton, Wendy Read, Sheri Brophy, Debbie Nutt, Lori Thackary
In the final, the Lake Cowichan Lakers, led by tourney MVP Dawn Coe’s 18 points, defeated the Maple Ridge Garibaldi Rebels 58-49. Garibaldi was paced by Jill Vance’s 19 points. Coe later became one the greatest golfers in Canadian history.
