The Clearwater Raiders defeated the Campbell River Robron Breakers 67-39 as Bahadur Rosode scored 24 and Sukhjinder Khaira 18. Bob Chambers led the Breakers with 10.

The Victoria Claremont Spartans dumped the Fraser Lake Cougars 91-81 in overtime. The score was knotted at 77 after regulation. The Cougars included Rick Menear, Gord Hunter, Walter Babicz.

In the last quarterfinal, the Quesnel Spartans stunned the 2nd-seeded Vancouver Lord Byng Grey Ghosts 65-61 as Steve Isaak scored 17. Mike Aldrich added 16, Steve Isaak 14, Dino Carriero 12, Graham Anhelner 10 and Sean Carson 10.

“That had to be our best game of the season,” Spartans coach Roger Pires told the Cariboo Observor. “Our defence was just super.” Graham Anhelner was chosen player of the game for the Spartans.

In the semis, the Langley D.W. Poppy Red Hawks defeated the Victoria Claremont Spartans 65-40 as Al Church scored 26 and Fred Stockfisch 22. Claremont was paced by Gary Gait 18 and Tim Weber 13.

In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Clearwater Secondary Raiders nipped the Quesnel Spartans 61-50 as Sukhinder Khaira scored 23 and Dahadur Rosode 14. Quesnel was led by Steve Isaak 14 points and Dino Carriero’s 12. “The first five minutes killed us,” Spartans coach Roger Pires told the Cariboo Observor. The Raiders built a 19-11 after one quarter and the Spartans never threatened. “I think we were a little overconfident,” Sean Carson said.

In the bronze medal match, the Quesnel Spartans dispatched the Victoria Claremont Spartans 73-67 as Sean Carson scored 23, Dino Carreiro 16 and Mike Aldrich 14. “It’s kind of hard to believe that it’s all over,” Quesnel coach Roger Pires told the Cariboo Observor. “I think the provincial championships have been a character builder for us. We were one game from the finals, you can’t beat that.” The 6-5 Carson said “we were the underdogs. If we would have lost to (Claremont), we would have come sixth and that wouldn’t have shown the team we have.” Claremont led 20-8 after the first quarter but Carson took command. The Spartans led 57-50 after three quarters. “Carson made the difference,” Pires said. “He scored 23 points in three quarters.”

In the final, the Langley D.W. Poppy Red Hawks crushed the Clearwater Secondary Raiders 62-41 as Al Church scored 29 and Fred Stockfisch 19. Red Hawks coach Mark Tamblyn told the Langley Advance that Al Church “rebounded, blocked shots, dribbled the ball and scored from the inside and outside. He completely dominated the tournament. Nobody could stay with him.” The Red Hawks led 22-20 at the half. In the third quarter, they switched from a man-to-man to a 2-3 zone and promptly built their lead to 12. Clearwater was led by Dahadur Rosode’s 18 points. Sukhinder Khaira added 10. The Red Hawks led 30-29 midway through the third quarter and exploded for the win.
