In the quarterfinals, the West Vancouver Sentinel Spartans defeated the Winfield George Elliot Coyotes 84-48 as Vince Dong scored 25. Darren Klein led the Coyotes with 22.

The Pitt Meadows Marauders nipped Westbank George Pringle Panthers 58-56 as Dean Florence scored 20. Paul Taylor led the Panthers with 29.

The Vancouver University Hill Hawks clubbed the Victoria St. Michaels Blue Devils 88-45. The Blue Devils (coach Bill Greenwell, manager Anthony Chui, manager Steve Kasapi) included John Bauer, Martin Brooks, Gareth Reeds, Bill Graham, Cliff Hall, Nick Grant, Dave Backhouse, Erik Kidd, Rob Murphy and Colin Riddler.

In the last quarterfinal, the Langley D.W. Poppy Red Hawks nipped the Victoria Claremont Spartans 64-63 as Al Church scored 28. Church knotted the score at 62. Claremont hit a free throw. Langley missed three shots. Claremont called timout. Andrew Lang pitched the ball inside to Church, who banked in the winner. Charlie Cunningham led the Spartans with 19.

In the semis, the Pitt Meadows Marauders defeated the Vancouver University Hill Hawks 74-60 as Dean Florence scored 31 and Vic Meister 13. University Hill was paced by Dave Cobitt’s 10 points and Chris Podlecki’s 18.

In the other semi, Axel Christiansen scored 18 to lead the West Vancouver Sentinel Spartans to a 60-50 victory over Langley D.W. Poppy Pioneers, which was led by Al Church’s 16 points. Rick Skolos added 15.

In the bronze medal match, the Vancouver University Hill Hawks dispatched the Langley D.W. Poppy Red Hawks 87-67. Al Church and Dave Burns each scored 18 to pace the Red Hawks, who led 55-54 after three quarters. But three starters fouled out, while Rick Skolos was hampered by a sprained ankle. Red Hawks coach Mark Tamblyn told the Langley Advance that “without our two big guys under the basket, the other team really dominated us. As soon as we lost Church, well, that was tournament really.” The Red Hawks (coached by Mark Tamblyn) also included Fred Stockfish, Joe Laing.

        In the final, seven years later after winning two provincial crowns with Burnaby St. Thomas More, Rich Goulet was at the helm of Pitt Meadows, leading the Fraser Valley-based Marauders to their first crown with a 59-57 defeat of the West Vancouver Sentinel Spartans. The Marauders, averaging 99 ppg in Fraser Valley competition, started g Dean Florence, 6-5 Victor Meister, Darrell Schott, guard Dan Milan and Ron Georgi. Pitt Meadows hung on to win the provincial crown as Darrell Schott hit the winning bucket with four seconds to go in a 59-57 Marauder victory over West Vancouver Sentinel. A Vince Dong prayer for Sentinel missed at the buzzer. Dong finished with 19.
