In the quarterfinals, held in Hope, the Burnaby St. Thomas More Knights thrashed the Fraser Valley Cougars 93-66 as Len Spencer scored 22. The Cougars included Tim Davis, Bill Davis, Bill Evans, Gary Senner, Brett Kammers, Rick Thon, Cameron Mann, Mike Bomberger.
The Hope Mustangs defeated the Invermere David Thompson Lakers 67-41 as Rick Gibson scored 17, Ian Ross 14 and Mitch Nicholson 12. The Lakers included Harry Ferguson.
The Westbank George Pringle Pacers nipped the Shawnigan Lake Stags 71-70 as Bruce Brown scored 20. The Stags (coached by Rod Hudspith) included Steve Bryan, Ian Leitch.
In the last quarterfinal, the Hazelton Spartans defeated the Midway Boundary Central Cougars 64-59 as Bill Maitland scored 20. The Cougars included Rob Barlee.
In the semis, the Burnaby St. Thomas More Knights stomped the Hazelton Spartans 101-59 despite trailing 14-12 after one quarter.
In the other semi, the Westbank George Pringle Pacers defeated the Hope Mustangs 57-55 as Randy Dewhurst hit the winning bucket with three seconds to play. The Pacers led 19-12, 32-28 at the half and 46-44 at the quarters. Ian Ross paced the Mustangs with 16. Rick Gibson added 12.
In the bronze medal match, the Hope Mustangs dumped the Hazelton Spartans 75-52 after leading 30-27 at the half. Rick Gibson paced the Mustangs with 24, along with 16 boards. The Spartans led 30-27 at the half.
In the final, held in Hope, the Burnaby St. Thomas More Knights own their second consecutive title, defeating the Westbank George Pringle Pacers 87-80 as Steve Farrer scored 16, Joe Thierman 16, Steve Betts 12, Len Spencer 12 and Michel Deslauriers 12. George Pringle was led by Randy Dewhurst’s 22 points. Bob Barlee added 18. Coach Rich Goulet told the Vancouver Sun that “I think we could have been competitive in double AA (now AAA) this year with top performances from our grade 12 players. But I didn’t think they were ready and I wanted the younger players to get the experience and confidence necessary to make the jump next season.”
