The Skyhawks led 42-24 early in the second half but the Pandas rallied to within 54-48 with a minute to play by pounding the ball into the post. “There is not a word to describe it,” said Skyhawks guard Hilary Annich told the Medicine Hat News. “We just completed the perfect season with a great team. I can’t put it into any words at all.” The Skyhawks finished (32-5) on the campaign. Pandas head coach Ross Blackmer said his troops, though bigger, had difficulty handling the physicality of the Skyhawks. “They weren’t this physical in the games that they played before. We had some trouble with that. They hit some shots, and that was the difference in the game. Second half, we got a little tougher inside, and it made a heck of a difference. You win some, and you lose some. We were here, and no one expected us to be here. We are happy we are here.” The Skyhawks hit 10 treys and the Pandas 1. The Pandas led 16-13 after one quarter. The Skyhawks led 29-18 at the half. Skyhawks coach John Dedrick said Magrath’s Tannis Wilde “penetrated and got some easy baskets. They had an unbelievable run through this provincial tournament defeating the number two seed and the number three seed. I never took anything for granted, even though we were up by a fair bit in the middle of the third quarter.”
