Cougars coach Tim Court told the Lethbridge Herald that “Cochrane, they’re a good team. We just came out and got them. I think we really dominated the inside.”
In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Cochrane Cobras dispatched the 2nd-seeded Airdrie George MacDougall Mustangs 73-65.
In the final, the top-seeded Cardston Cougars stomped the 11th-seeded Magrath Pandas 77-43. “It’s good, we were on the other end of the floor in 1998 (finishing second) and it wasn’t too good,” Cardston coach Tim Court told the Lethbridge Herald. “The girls came to play tonight. They were flying. I was nervous all day long. I shouldn’t have been, they played steady all year long.” The Cougars lost only three games all year, once to 4A provincial champ and twice to Cranbrook Mount Baker. The Cougars led 23-2 after 13 minutes. With the Pandas trying to stop post Joanie Low by packing the paint, wing Alisha Nelsoun found the perimeter open up. She finished with 26. Bradie Walburger added 13, Low 11, along with 17 boards, Megan Nelson 9 and Julie McMurray 8. Mandee Sabey led the Pandas with 115. Kim Miller, Erin Wilde and Megan Scott each added 8.
