In the semis, top-seeded Calgary Chestermere Lakers dumped the Okotoks Foothills Falcons 76-62.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Airdrie George McDougall Mustangs defeated the Devon John Maland Wildcats 80-65
In the bronze medal match, the Devon John Maland Wildcats defeated the Okotoks Foothills Falcons 70-57. The Falcons included Tanya Cottrell.
In the final, Airdrie George McDougall upset the top-seeded Calgary Chestermere Lakers 58-54 as Lauren Stagg took command of the affair in the second half. Calgary Chestermere’s Jody Bell was named “Miss Basketball” in Alberta and later inked a scholarship with the University of Texas. The Arizona State-bound Stagg scored four points in final minute to win it. McDougall trailed 30-15 at the half. “We thought it was over,” Stagg who scored 31, told the Calgary Herald. “We lost by 20 to Calgary Chestermere in the (Rockyview) zone final because we couldn’t score on them, and in the first half they knew how to shut us down. But we came up with a few new plays in the second and caught up.” Stagg broke a 54-54 on a layup and then popped in two free throws with one second remaining. The Lady Lakers and Mustangs finished the regular season tied with 7-1 records in the same regional conference. “I can’t believe it,” said Stagg. “We’ve been watching the game tape over and over today.”
