But as long as they come back, it’s okay. It’s nerves, the first game. We’re still young. We only have three Grade 12s.” A 10-0 run early in the second half settled down the Larks, vaulting them into a 45-29 lead. “They played terrific defence, going up against big girls like that, Boras said, adding that Marnie Carlson’s defence turned the tide. “Marnie came on in the second half in a spurt and got everybody going. She’s a sparkplug. She gets a couple of quick steals and off she goes, and everybody starts running.” As well, he added, Nicole Peterson “played with a lot of poise for a Grade 10 player. She made some nice feeds and showed a lot of hustle.” Cindy Doram led the Larks with 18. Wendy Doram added 10. Gayna Joels paced the Cougars with 14. Wendy Doram paced the Larks with 26, while Cindy Doram ran the offence with aplomb. “Cindy’s been our floor general all year and Wendy’s been the scorer. They came through tonight,” said coach Leonard Boras. “Nicole Petersen again showed great hustle, and our post people worked hard and got all the boards. … Everybody just came through for us. I said all year long the bench was going to win it for us.” The Larks led 27-18 at the half as the bench picked up the slack when the Doram sisters were forced to the bench with two fouls apiece. The Bisons cut the lead to 19-24 in the second half but the Larks responded with a 16-0 run to put the out of research.
