In other semi, the 2nd-seeded Calgary Chestermere Cowboys defeated the Ponoka Broncs 81-72. Took command in the second half. Allen Jovica led Calgary Chestermere with 33. Cameron Kusiek scored 33 for the Broncs.
In the bronze medal match, the Ponoka Broncs dispatched the Camrose Trojans 76-61. The Trojans (coached by James Saby and John Hamilton) included Andrew Ignatiuk, Bobbi Marjanovic, Matt Falk, Tom Steblyk.
In final, the top-seeded Calgary Springbank Phoenix thumped the 2nd-seeded Calgary Chestermere Cowboys 79-54. Colin Bayliss scored 23. Galbraith dominated in paint. Peter James led Calgary Chestermere with 19. The Calgary Springbank Phoenix were coached by Richard Bohne, former CIS scoring champ and national team player. “My first real coaching experience – I’ve never had one team for a whole season. I came in and said, ‘We’ll all learn together. We’re all rookies’,” said Bohne, who set a Canadian university career scoring record (34.2 PPG) during four seasons at the U of Calgary.
