In the last quarterfinal, the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras nipped the Fort McMurray Miners 77-76 as Ryan Hall scored 25 and Matthew Roemmel 21. In the other semi, Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras defeated the Lacombe Rams 78-70 as Mike Mulholland scored 23 and Ryan Hall 18. Greg Brown paced the Rams with 22. Talbot Walton added 10 and Chris Kuiper 10. Rams coach Don Gustafson told the Red Deer Advocate “we had to press (trailing by three with 90 seconds to play), which allowed them to open it up a little.”
In the bronze medal match, the Lacombe Rams defeated the Calgary Ernest Manning Griffins 98-91 (alternately reported as 99-90) as Greg Brown scored 23, Chris Kuiper 23 and Talbot Watson 21. The Rams trailed by three with 90 seconds to play. Rams coach Don Gustafson told the Red Deer Advocate “we had to press, which allowed them to open it up a little.” The Griffins (coached by Roland Zilla) included Norm Taylor, Chris Meyer, Tony Avdicos, Troy Gedlaman.
In the final, the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras defeated the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots 73-68 as Mike Mulholland scored 20 and Matthew Roemmele 16. “We have finished second a couple of times, third, won the consolation trophy and three sportsmanship awards but this time we won the championship trophy,” said Cobras’ coach Dennis Simpson.
