They were very quiet in the room before the game.” Claresholm coach Dennis Simpson said “we’re not an aggressive team and don’t bang on the boards.” Brad Hewitt paced the Cobras with 10. Doug Gross added 10. “We played very badly,” said Simpson told Canadian Press. In the final, the Red Deer Camille J. Lerouge Voyageurs clipped the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots 61-51 as Andy Moldowan scored 26, Paul Claerhout 17 and Gareth Joels 9. Voyageurs coach John Johnston told the Red Deer Advocate “we knew we had the ability to win it all right from the beginning. Anything less would have been a disappointment. This is very special to all of us. It took a lot of work by everyone.” The Scots led 34-30 at the half and 42-35 with six minutes to play. But the Voyageurs switched from a man to a 1-3-1 trapping zone and took command. They drew even on a pair of free throws by Paul Claerhout and then took the lead on a Jason Langlaar bucket. Scots coach Greg Bishoff said “we hoped the pressure would get to them. … We had trouble penetrating below their foul line and for us, that was trouble.” Voyageurs co-coach Bill Holden said “we made real bad shot selection in the first half and early in the second, so we called a timeout. After that we moved the ball quickly against their zone. They played a helluva game but we also let ourselves get a little complacent after beating Bowness.”
