In the quarterfinals, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots clipped the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras 59-46. Gordon Haugen led the Cobras with 12. Barry Munro added 10 and David Hansma 10, along with 11 boards. The Cobras (coached by Dennis Simpson and Bill Moore) also included Greg Gilmsdale, Peter Ulrich, Jim Deurloo, Rick Florence, Glen Prusky, Gordon Haugen.

In the other semi, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots torched the Ponoka Broncs 64-44.
In the bronze medal match, the Ponoka Broncs dispatched the Wetaskiwin Sabres 52-43 as Wayne Goodwin scored 16, Peter Martin 11 and Mark Thompson 11. Dean Kirwir led the Sabres with 21.
In the final, the Calgary John Diefenbaker Chiefs defeated the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots 67-56. Rookie coach George Lepard, who replaced Del Anderson at the helm after the Chiefs won the 1978 title, told the Calgary Herald that “this is a unique group of athletes and seven of the guys played on the city football team last fall (while the others were all volleyball players.” Texas-born 6-3 post Rob Eudaily said “unless everybody stuck with it, we would never have won provincials. It helped that we played a lot of 4A schools all year too.” Mike McMullen said “everybody had a lot of heart this year.”
