In the quarterfinals, held in Sherwood Park, the Taber W.R. Myers Trotters whipped the Camrose Trojans 82-48 (also reported as 83-49) as Allen Matthews scored 30, Derek Shaw 15, Dalton Harding 12 and Kurt Anderson 10. The Trotters led 20-8, 42-21 and 58-31 at the quarters.
The Ponoka Broncs dispatched the Drumheller Dynos 49-44. The Dynos included Tracy Vogstad.
The Medicine Hat McCoy Colts whipped the Grande Prairie Tomahawks 55-38.
In the last quarterfinal, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots stomped the Bonnyville Roadrunners 75-58.
In the semis, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots torched the Taber W.R. Myers Trotters 71-49.
In the other semi, the Ponoka Broncs edged the Medicine Hat McCoy Colts 40-39 in overtime as Tim Carter hit a free throws with four seconds to play. The score was knotted at 37 after regulation. Grant Gordon paced the Broncs with 20. Grinham added 7.
In the bronze medal match, the Taber W.R. Myers Trotters defeated the Medicine Hat McCoy Colts x-x. The Colts (coached by Brian Sanders) included Marcel Dirk, Ron Durbeniuk, Doug Lambert, Michael Nikiel, Doug Dirk, Robbie Collins, Mitch Lambert, Ottenbreit, Doug Grimm, Danny Winter and Pat Grisonich.
In the final, the Sherwood Park Archbishop Jordan Scots dumped the Ponoka Broncs 66-45 to capture their third consecutive crown. Vince Diduck led the Scots in scoring with 762 points on the season. Archbishop Jordan finished (32-5) on the season. Grant Gordon paced the Broncs with 22. Schmidt added 9. Broncs coach Bryan Martin told the Red Deer Advocate the silver medal was incredible, given that the Broncs had lost all-star post Doug Bennett to injury late in the season. “I was extremely pleased with our showing. You can’t take anything away from these players. They gave it everything they had and it was almost enough. When we lost Bennett, we dind’t lose our momentum, which was key. Some of the players who weren’t getting as much floor time came on and picked up the slack.
